How's about a simple rating system for retailers, similar to the rep point scheme for members?

there are better sites like resellerratings.com that focus on rating retailers.

there are better sites like resellerratings.com that focus on rating retailers.Yeah, but then "there are better sites like" Fatwallet.com for deals... does that mean that we can't have our own version of it? What about a list of "SlickDeals Members' Top 10 Favorite Retailers"... or "Top 10 Worst Vendors for Rebates"... etc. Besides, I'm not sure I trust ResellerRatings.com anymore.

what i meant is there's sites that specialize in that.

what i meant is there's sites that specialize in that.Doesn't mean that SD couldn't create something useful.
Man, you sound like my old grandmother when I tried to talk her into using a microwave oven!

I think telly is on to a good idea...
Maybe a section for etailers and comments for them, along with who posted it, maybe with rep points, along with a links to correlating to threads here.

Thirded.
I think it would be a natural fit, although I don't know how it would impact ad sales.

Screw that!
As soon as you do it, reps from company X, Y, and Q will be signing up aliases in droves to "rep-up" their ratings.

Good point. I guess there is always a negative out there to a good idea.:lmao:

How does ResellerRatings protect itself from that situation, or does it?
IMHO, it's the negatives more than the postitives that get the attention of people, and those would still come through, regardless of how many people post positive comments about their employers.
For example, NewEgg seems to have high ratings on ResellerRatings, and AFAIK, their rating is well-deserved. Buy.com does not rank highly, and that too seems valid.
It takes another step lower on the morality ladder to post negatives about a competitor.

Thats why you have the person's username who put the rep there, and not allow people who just joined or are below a certain rep to post. People with higher rep == more trusted with comments.

word, something like the votes from members with 100+ posts would count, votes from those below 100 does not count until they reach 100. there are ways to safeguard against bots.

Can dig it, IF the safegards are in place. Nobody is going to "bot" up a hundred posts for the ability to award rep points.
Side note:
bean, I KNOW that avatar picture form somewhere, I probably have it in my book collection somewhere. Mind telling me exactly where you got it?

Yes, it is true that sites like resellerratings and pricegrabber focus on ratings for vendors, but members of SD reading what other members have to say can be a priceless experience... especially if the member has been around for awhile and know what they are talking about, would persuade me to buy rather than looking at random postings by strangers on the other sites, where I question a lot of the posts to be authentic.
There needs to be a whole new thread topic (i.e. Hot-deals, help me find a deal) and each of the threads will be taken up by a vendor. We can vote thumbs up or down and if the seasoned SDers can have more sway in their voting, then I'd very much trust it (maybe have a database on who voted what would help too). We should also limit noobies so that they aren't signing up just to vote for their company, so only people with over 100 posts or something.

BTW: if anyone sees any of my 2 Lateralus CD's I'd be really appreciative, seeing as how they KEEP DISAPPEARING.
