Hi everyone, even more so then a slickdeal on the item, I'm just looking for an item in general that can handle this, a large hdd based mp3 player that doesn't need any syncing program (or has a syncing program for linux), you connect the device it shows just like a letter drive and you copy over the music. that's all i'm looking for. i dont need movies, photos, album art or even a color screen. FM radio would be plus..HD Radio would make it a must have haha
any suggestions? thanks in advance.

will that let me bypass itunes and use the drive as a removable disk? if so it could be an option...but I really don't want an ipod based on the fact that everyone and their mother has one...plus i rip on my friends for having them when their are much better options out there for less money, i can't be a hypocrite and get one.

yes
My wife has a rockboxed iriver (h120 or h140) which is pretty much exactly what you are looking for, but they haven't been manufactured for a while now. They would be pretty tough to find.

yeah, I've looked around a bit for you and it doesn't seem like there are too many hdd based mp3 players anymore. That sucks.... Have you checked out the zune?
The Arcos 5 and 7 also come up on a search I did at Newegg... but it is pretty expensive:
