I think a lot of people might be interested in this. If anyone has tips on good deals for trips to Vegas spanning new years please post them here. Many of the regular deals blackout over the holiday unfortunately.
I'm planning a large trip with friends for something like Dec. 29th - Jan. 2nd. Plus/Minus a day on either end. While we expect to pay more, saving money is always a plus.
Thanks.

This is one of the only times that I would recommend you wait until the last minute to book. The hotels hold back on dropping rates until right before New Year's in hopes that they'll get people to book at the high rates. I'd try calling or going online the week of Christmas and find something reasonable.

I agree with what Lockstock said.
Sign yourself up for every hotel (that you are interested in staying at) mailing list.
Check your email. Keep checking it.
Its acutally possible to get some earlier booking deals IF the vegas people's projections look bad this year. Back in 07 when the economy was screeching to a halt and eveyrone got scared I started getting emails from Vegas hotels with fantastic New Years deals weeks before new years and they kept coming til the week before.
If nothing shows up earlyish, you'll start getting some 'last minute package' deals in yuor inbox. Don't just settle for one of those, if they are mailing you about one deal there are uusally 2-3 more out there. Check around.
and the waiting til the last minute thing only works as long as you are comfortable with the possibility of not getting your first choice in hotels or rooms. What you get will really depend on what the booking trends are. Like Lockstock said, they will hold out to get the highest priced bookings possible and then at the last minute they will start handing out great deals just to fill up the empty rooms -- IF the empty rooms need filling. I think things will still be on the slower side this year so you probably have a good shot at something you will like.
Now besides the hotel deals you should also start checking (and signing up for notifications on) package deals to vegas on Expedia/Travelocity/Etc if you guys are gonna need plane tickets too.
Also these deals need to be jumped on -- you may want to discuss with your party what they are willing to pay, get it upfront that you will buy the rooms/tickets as soon as you find a great deal and that they will pay you their share after you book. Trying to coordinate multiple people booking deals can be annoying -- one person procrastinates and then they can't get the same deal or flight or whatever... just keep it in mind.
