When OPs blickify a link and hide it behind 'Click here' or 'LINK', they create a problem for the repost detecting software. The software can't "see" the link and so the lazy bones posters who refuse to search and instead rely on the Repost Alert get lulled in to thinking they are in the clear.

I know some people think that by osbcuring the link, they are somehow preventing Deal cutting and pasting. They are preventing it - for about the 30 seconds it takes somebody to click on the 'LINK' and get the URL themselves. But why should we care? Slick Deals posts are gonna get copied no matter what ya do. SO long as there is a Fark Wallet - they will cut and paste.

I would like to ask the Mods to consider banning the hiding of links, at least in the Freebie, Magazine and Coupons Forums where the majority of reposts take place.

it is true that if a User would just SEARCH, they'd usually find their post is a repost within a few seconds. However, as long as they can say 'but the Repost alert didn't warn me it was a repost!" - we will continue to have excessive reposts.

Whattaya say?

Ban hiding link addys in the original post of a thread?

I say yes.

Links in this format (slickdeasl.net) does not get by-passed by the URL checker. I've done that before & had the URL checker pop-up & warn me.

If a person keeps hitting the enter button, they may not see the warning because they are in such a hurry to make their post.

Also, a fast way to get links is the Right click on them & view the links properties. That's how I check links to make sure they are legit.

Kel Be - I'm talking about people who use HTML to hide the link. Will the link checker see THAT? It doesn't seem to. When I report reposts, a lot of them seem to be because of this.

Now, is it because when they hide the link they skip the Http:// part and just go WWW. ? or is it because they hide the link.
That's my question.

Lemme see if I can do it here:

Link (http://slickdeasl.net/"")

Like That ^

Can the Link detector scope that?

How about THIS:
Link (www.slickdeasl.net/"")

lemme know. I'm always interested in learning new things!

From what I know, both of those should be detected by the URL Checker. I think we'll have to wait until this evening when Mr. SD is on so that he can give us the final ruling.

Only the urls in the first post of a thread get tested. It'll raise the flag when the urls match exactly.

http//slickdeals.net & slickdeals.net will match.
http://www.slickdeals.net & http://slickdeals.net will not match.
