I'm thinking about dumping cable anbd switching to DirectTV, but have a few questions. Is the $10 HD access fee per a receiver or is it for the entire account regardless of number of receivers? What about the DVR fee (per receiver or per account). I tried searching on DirectTV site but couldn't find the answer.

I only have one fee of $10 which is included in the base package I choose. I have a HD-DVR and a Standard Def DVR. The only other fee I pay is $5 for a leased receiver which is the HD one.

On my statement I have this:

DIRECTV DVR Service $6.00/mo Included in Base: 0.00
Leased Receiver Price: $5
12 Month Programming Credit -10.00

If you talk to Customer Service see if you can get them to get you a discount to help keep your bill low. Right now I have a $10 discount for 12 months.

The HD $10 fee is for the entire account, DVR is per receiver.

Don't switch to DirecTV. Horrible customer service, and if you live in the northeast or anywhere that gets inclement weather you will have a lot of issues with reception. They will lock you into a 2 year contract. Can't wait until mine is up now that FIOS TV is available here.

Both HD AND DVR Service are charged per account, not per receiver. You are charged a monthly leasing fee of $5 per receiver, after your first one.

Example

5 HD DVR would cost $10+$6+$20=$36 per month for equipment charges.

If your dish is aligned properly you will not have any weather related issues unless it is a SEVERE storm or snow/ice is laying on the dish and you can't access it to clear it away. I live in southern PA and can't complain at all.

Thank you for the informative replies. I too would rather have FIOS, but there are taking too long to expand their coverage in my city. I probably won't decide until the end of the year, but wanted to get a rough estimate of all the cost involved with DirectTV.

I hardly ever lose my signal with DirecTV. I've had no problems with customer service.

Almost done with my 2 years. The dunce who installed our dish put it low on the roof and a tree gets in the way of half the channels now.

I've been with DirecTV for over 7 years, and will never go back to cable!!!
