View Full Version : Alltel to AT&T ??? Verizon??

I'm in one of Alltel's areas thats going to be acquired by AT&T. Funny thing is, unless they add towers, AT&T doesn't show coverage for my area. According to AT&T they are more than likely going to ask all customers that are being acquired to change equipment to GSM.

I'm up for an upgrade with Alltel.. do you guys think it would be beneficial to upgrade with Alltel to extend my current pricing for another year.. which won't work with AT&T (but will grandfather me into Alltel's price) and then switch to Verizon? OR just wait and see what happens? I don't have a very large window of opportunity I don't think... I just want to be ready when the conversion happens.

I currently have 4 lines and would like to upgrade to a smart phone but not sure yet.

I've made myself totally crazy looking at all the websites and talking to reps, that now I've confused myself more!:confused:

Alltel got bought by Verizon, not AT&T. I don't get why AT&T would "require" anything, unless there's something going on that hasn't been heard of.

You can't upgrade with Alltel, as that company no longer exists. They are now Verizon, and anyone with Alltel is getting changed over to a Verizon plan once their contract is up. The only real option you have if you want to keep your current contract is to find something with Verizon you like, because if you switch to AT&T you're going to have to buy all new phones and have to get a new contract, which will be rather pricey most likely.

Some of the Altell overlap areas of Verizon were not included in the buyout and sold to other carriers, in this case AT&T. If AT&Ts coverage sucks, I would jump ship to Verizon once your contract it up.

Thanks!! That's what it seems like. Alltel is what most everyone here has... that is the main reason I was so confused.
