I'm trying to find a cheap yet reliable server with Windows Server. Server will be used for a retail application with with one workstation accessing/updating the retail software program constantly. Server needs to be very reliable as our entire retail system will be housed on the server.
Any suggestions?

That server looks decent. But OP, it is extremely important that you invest in a reliable and redundant backup system. If you're not confident in designing and implementing this yourself, please hire someone. Any data and/or software required for business operation should be included in the backup routine.

we have backups 2x/day (retail software automated) and we also have online backup (usually mozy or idrive). I was hoping to stay under $1000...

even if you built your own to do it right you would be hitting 1k just for the mobo+cpus
for instance take a look at the barebone servers below

Quick question...I'm looking at OS options for a newly configured T100 or T105 and can't figure it out...Can I go with Windows Server 2008 Web Edition SP2 ($399) or do I need to get Windows Server 2008 R2 Standard Edition, includes 5 CALs ($799)?

I'm also looking at a low-end server, and am considering RAID options...
1) Most motherboards seem to support some sort of simple RAID 1 or RAID 0. What type of performance sacrifice is made using said onboard controller?
2) It seems like a 3rd drive for RAID 5 may be in order. If this is indeed the case, I assume the onboard RAID controller won't hack it. What is a good recommendation for a SATA RAID controller?
This will be a server in a health care office, it will house both the patient scheduling/accounting software (<500MB ODBC Database), and also database software (Probably another 500MB, but will grow in time.)
Thanks
