car & driver is a rag, with test results skewed by subjective ratings. well, unless you drive a bimmer, then it's all good.
opinions should not be included in scored tests of automobiles. this isn't Freshman English 101...

I agree with you 100%. There are always extremely in favor of BMW, and they always use the "Fun To Drive" and "Gotta Have It" categories to bring certain cars on top during comparison tests.

Reminds me of a Motor Trend test years ago. It was Z06 vette vs BMW M3 vs. a Porsche or something to see which was the best sports car. Anyhow the Z06 won like every test. Yet somehow the M3 was judged the best sports car because it could haul a family or some crap. Total bs.

that's why you get to use your own judgement people when buying your car. hopefully you're intelligent enough to take their opinions for what they are, opinions.

Ha, I do remember that article. Don't get me wrong, I am a die hard bimmer fan/driver but what car and driver has done over the years is a joke even if I agree with it...
Like someone said earlier, i go through the pictures and its off to the coffee table for a month before it meets its fate in the recycling bin.
Thank you Selma for the post though.

Wow, just look at the haters... If you don't like the nation's best car magazine because they didn't score your favorite car higher, then move along and read Motor Trend.
I'm mystified about how it is that disagreeing with the results of a few comparison tests makes you hate the magazine so much... There's much more to a car rag than comparison tests. And if you don't agree with the results of said tests, boo frickin' hoo.

I agree with the posters who say that you should just look at the pretty pictures. I just like to see the new car models and throw it away. I would also agree that their ratings are skewed, but for free I ain't complaining! Repped!

i drive a BMW and love my BMW... but you are absolutely right. no matter what the test, it always seems like the BMW wins... even when it probably shouldn't.

Same here. Maybe C&D (and MT) aren't cutting edge in terms of the double blind, calibrated testing and conclusions but they sure have pretty pictures and that's enough the teens and myself.
BTW, I usually go though the mag in a week, and just leave it at work or at a bus stop, anywhere someone else can enjoy. (Cut your address out of course).

I'm not really sure what people expect when reading a car magazine. If you don't understand that the car that puts up the best numbers may not in fact be the best car... Then you don't really appreciate cars, just numbers. Car and Driver, and Motor Trend, and all the rest all give the "cutting edge" numbers you crave, but all the magazines also offer their opinion of the cars quite apart from its objective performance.
Every month the reader letters section prints a mindless missive from someone complaining "the Viper is the fastest car in your test and didn't win? Your magazine is stupid!!", it somehow escaping the writer of that letter that there is more to a car than the 0-60, quarter mile, slalom or skidpad. There are many subjective factors to a car's performance and driving experience that can't be measured by a VBOX, and those who are peeved that the fastest car doesn't always win are blind if they can't see it.
Subjective scoring absolutely has a place in car reviews, otherwise all we'd need is a spreadsheet to figure out which car is the best. If you don't like the editorial conclusions of a given magazine, then go find one that validates your own prejudices.
