Old computer is a couple of years old. Starting to show signs of harddrive failure.
Would like to replace just the tower (no need for a monitor or speakers)
Price range is $200-$300. Something basic for a soon to be teenager.
Doesn't play any graphic intense games but the option to play some basic games would be nice. Used mostly for web browsing, chatting, and looking at pictures.

Dealigg has a link to a decent system: http://www.dealigg.com/story-HP-Pavilion-Slimline-s5120f-Desktop-6 the slimlines are nice - only thing is when they first boot up the fan is really loud, but calms down once Windows loads power management. you can use the link on the page to get $10 off if you are a first time buyer at Buy.com. At the price range you are talking about, you would be hard pressed to build your own unless you have a spare copy of Windows laying around. (A nice Linux machine can be built easily, but you mentioned the option of playing games, and WINE may not be the most userfriendly for you).
On second thought, your soon to be teenager will be much happier with a laptop. And at the $300 range you will see some decent deals in the next week or so on those - perhapsa tiny bit more, but right around $300.

I first suggested a tower due to the fact that a desktop was already in place... not to mention teenagers can be irresponsible (and therefore may drop a laptop.)
Is there any particular reason we may see decent deals in about a week? Win7 release?

I went ahead and purchased the HP Pavilion Slimline. It'll be my first Refurbished HP.. hopefully it works out.
Thanks for pointing this PC out to me.
