I'm looking for a deal on a new computer desk/table. I don't really want and drawers, and maybe 1 shelf to put my printer on. I have a closet that will allow for about a 60in x 24in size. Basically, I've never really shopped around for a desk before, and was wondering where the best places to start looking are, and I didn't know if Black Friday might offer me any deals (although I have to work at Best Buy that day). I looked on craigslist already, but everything on there was a P.O.C. Thanks for your help.

i found office max and office depot as the best stores in my area for a desk, i would suggest looking at those if you have on nearby, otherwise i don't know

I used to think they were about equal and in fact Omax as Ive posted before, used to be one of the most aggressive rebate sales retailers around competing head on with Compusa every weekend with some insane deals. They phased that out in 2005 and frankly they reverted to the pre-late 90s super high priced, low selection store you used to see back then. You know the kind of store where you see ancient video cards and burners and media for 3 to 4 times higher in price than the decent stores. The kind of store you go for comedy relief.

I used to go all the time, I think Ive been Omax maybe 2 times since 2005. Omax has had a few rare deals and if its in your area I guess I would check it out after I checked out O Depot and Staples. The latter two have lots of coupons you can use on desks and the Odepot near me has a lot of desks on sale every week.

Check the weekly sales online at Odepots site and Staples and Omax and then look for coupons if you see any you like.

The lowest end ones are very minimalistic particle board desks with no compartment or drawers. In fact drawers are fairly rare until you get usually to the 130-150 range. The cheapo particle board ones start at around less than 50 to 100-120. You start seeing glass top desks and hard surface desks with steel frames in the 80-120 range with coupons and sales.

Those big old hairy office desk type desks start from around 120-150, the kind with lots of compartments and desks.

Sams Club has some glass topped Whalen desks two styles , that use hardwoods for around 200 bucks.

I currently have a particle board one, and its heavy and very loose feeling( it used to shake whenever i had an inkjet printer. I think I would prefer a lighter, probably steel framed one, or anything that stands on legs instead of the side of a board. I will take a look around Odepot, Omax, sams, and staples. I just wasnt sure if there was some store I was forgetting that has cheaper desks.

Ive seen some really cheap deals intermittently at Odepot if you wait for a sale and use one of the coupons. Theres a 20% off coupon floating around which is good until Dec I think. There are also 30 off 150 and other coupons.

I like the Whalen desks though they arent exactly what I would like --- they are glass on top and made of hardwoods and hardwood veneers. The styling is a bit frumpy but its fairly clean.

There was another model they stopped carrying which I like better. They also raised the price on this one to 249.

Strangely I dont see the usual desks featured in the weekly ad so I would wait until next week to check out the ad for Odepot. Staples usually has tons of coupons floating around too.
