Doesn't having to still pay the 10% they always tack on for non-members kinda kill make it a non-deal?

There are many products there that are still a fantastic deal even with an additional 10%. You can't get in & make purchases without the shopping pass or a membership. So, if you just want one or two things IMO, it's still a good deal. If you want to use it to go in and buy hundreds of dollars worth of stuff, then no. Just buy a membership.

Sam's Club offers a free 1-day Sam's Club guest pass (http://samsclubmemberservices.com/media/link/pdf/OneDayPass.pdf)via this printable coupon (http://samsclubmemberservices.com/media/link/pdf/OneDayPass.pdf). However, a 10% service fee applies, excluding CA, SC, and Elmsford, NY locations. This pass expires November 7.

really? I rarely see anything in sam's club that is more than 10% off other avenues of purchase.
but these passes are great for Cali residents.
