View Full Version : Best 37" LCD TV???
i'm doing some research for black friday/cyber monday and i'm trying to decide whats the better buy. i'm looking for a 37" 1080p LCD HDTV with maybe 120hz? so far i'm leaning torwards the LG LH40, i've looked on cnet and they said it was a good tv but had some minor flaws which i didnt care about. i've looked at many sites for other peoples reviews and they didnt have anything bad to say. As for samsung, i came across many reviews that said there tv died within a year which is making me undecided if i really want one. today i went to bestbuy to checkout all the tv's out and got to see their qualities in person and the LG was pretty good, but the samsung quality was amazing and the sonys too. so i'm asking whats the best tv i can get for a fair price. i'm not looking to spend a lot of money maybe 6 to 7 hundred. i know its not much but i'm sure black friday/cyber monday is going to have good deals. But i'm just looking for past experiences, recommendations, anything thats going to help me get the best tv for my price range.

Could you point me in the direction where someone said samsung tv died in less than a year? Im looking for same tv as you, only Im still trying to find what is the 300$ difference between 60Hz and 120Hz, so Ill buy a 60Hz.

Id say samsung & sony have best quality and best picture, so I wouldnt buy anything else
re: 60hz vs 120hz
In my opinion, I would not buy a TV for the 120hz feature. I have a 46" samsung that I absolutely love. However, I've turned off the 120hz feature. If you do some looking around you'll find that many people do this becuase it gives it a "soap opera effect". Now, I don't watch soap operas, and I don't have any way to really describe to you what I mean, but if you see 120hz you'll think to yourself -- "oh, thats the soap opera effect". The picture looks very fake looking and it doesn't seem right. The demo's that they play in stores don't even show the effect to the fullest. I've had my TV for 6 months and it was shut off the first day I got it. I only turned it back on for fun here and there and then promptly turned it back off.
In regards to the TVs dying after a year -- if you look hard enough, you'll probably find a review for every model that says it's died after a year. It's the internet and anyone can (and does) say anything they want to about anything. In the end, every product has a bad run or a few bad units. I've got two samsung TVs and I absolutely love them. I have them both covered by extended warranties. They are one of the few products I actually buy them on. If you're worried about your new TV dying I suggest you either buy one of these warranties or get a TV from Costco where they automatically extend the manufacturers warranty for two years.
ANd they have some good deals on TVs at costco. You just have to wait for the one you want to go on sale!
