Hello, I was wondering if somebody could point out a laptop for under $400? It can go up to $450 but no more than that (want to stay at around $400 though), and I would like a laptop that is 15" or bigger. I don't plan on playing any games on it (maybe just flash games) so I think this is a reasonable budget considering that. Also, It doesn't matter if there is onboard video or some low-end graphics card on there. I would like 5+ hours of battery life between recharges (I think that a majority of laptops with low-end graphics card or onboard video can give 5+ hours of battery life). This laptop will mostly be used for web-surfing, occasionally used for word documents and other low-end things.

Any ideas or advise would be great. Thanks.

(I kind of want to stay away from Newegg because of their taxes in my area. It adds up when you have a $400 laptop)

walmart has an ACER laptop for $348. I think it pretty much fits ur description.

This would be slick with the bing 10% cashback. Otherwise you might want to consider a dell outlet laptop with a 15% coupon.

It's out of stock =[

I will look in Dell outlet though

You can try your local walmart (if you haven't). If the Land O Lakes FL Wal-mart has it, yours probably would too.

It's a great deal if it is available online especially with Bing Cashback.

Only other thing I could think of is the Dell outlet or Lenovo outlet or Lenovo CPP.

349$ Acer Aspire
This would be great for your purpose. The big plus for this laptop is that it is dual core. The integrated video card is rather slow. But if your not playing games or watching HD videos this laptop is will service you very well.

Compared to the one posted just above for $348 (and 10% bing cash back if bought online) that one's crap. It's got a 2 generation or so old processor (ages old, really), and it's one of the Acer's from before they bought Gateway if I remember. Terrible choice because it's going to be poorly built compared to the one above for the same price with WAY BETTER specs.

Yes, your right. I was lazy and did not click on the Walmart link. I assumed the latop was the Acer Aspire sinlge core AMD that they been having for sale.

It is sold out in my area. Closest Walmart selling it is about 30 minutes from my house. I am not sure if that laptop is worth the 30 minute ride

What about this one?

It's out of stock and I can't find a price, so I can't really say.

It's probably worth the ride, if they have it in stock. It's about as low as you will go for the basic laptop.

Potentially the only problem you might have would be the 1.2GHz dual-core processor, but for basic tasks it will work fine.

Thanks for the help, but I decided to go with an Acer Aspire AS7736Z that I found on here. 17" screen, 4gb ram along with windows 7 for $450

http://www.staples.com/Acer-Aspire-AS7736Z-4809-Laptop/product_828336?storeId=10001&jspStoreDir=Staples&cmSearchKeyword=AS7736Z-4809&fromUrl=home&langId=-1&catalogId=10051&cmArea=SEARCH&ddkey=StaplesSearch

The only issue is that the battery lasts for 3 and half hours only. I guess I will just have to let it be. Not very hard to find a socket to plug it into anyways.

Do note a 17" laptop would usually be heavier and have a lower battery life for the same price as a 15".

Acer Aspire AS7736Z-4809 Laptop: Intel T4300 2.1GHz, 17.3" HD+, 4GB DDR2, 320GB HDD, HDMI, Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit $450 @ Staples (http://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?t=1631746)

It got great reviews in the thread. Bought one myself, but I haven't had time to play with it yet. You can also get a network printer for $40 with this deal, good price if you need one.

No 5+ hrs of battery life, but that's going to be tough to pull off with any 15"+ laptop, or even a netbook for that matter

Yeah, I just received it today couple hours ago. Haven't opened it yet. Do you know if it runs cool?

Also, it is not listed on Acer's website so it is kind of weird. Dunno if that is really an issue though.

To be honest, I haven't had time to open mine yet but I will tonight or tomorrow, but several people on the thread for that deal said it ran very cool & didn't even get warm by the wents. Someone said it was the coolest running laptop they've ever had without even having to use a cooling pad.

I was not able to find this on Acer's website either. Staples' listing for this item does not contain much info, so it would have been nice to get more detailed specs from Acer. Staples doesn't even indicate that this has an HDMI port, which it does...you'd think that would be a selling point and they'd want to list that.
