It's been brought up many times. I don't for-see it happening.

I think we should be flattered that so many people are lurking! We must all be doing something right.

most of the time my friends and i are on shared/public computers, so don't ever log in. pretty much only log in to post. perhaps some of these people ARE members, but just not logged in.

I'd hate for someone to get into my sd account and make unauthorized posts!! :lmao:

How do you think I got this many posts? We're actually a team of people who don't know each other, but use some of the same computers.

No, really.

Most people lurk before becoming members.

Why the big desire to have people become "members?" What difference does it make to those who are members?

Many people use work / public computers and choose not to login. For that reason alone, I do not think we should force sign in.

guests should only be able to look at the front page and not be able to access the forums.

This may go against SDs idea though, maybe the point of slickdeals is to let everyone know that there are great deals out there, but I too would like a members only area.</says the man with the highest rep to post ratio>:D

Why the big deal over "members "vs "non-members?"

What actual difference does it make to anyone if someone viewing the forum signs up or not?

The more people who click on ad links, the more revenue SD makes. Just requiring registration does nothing to increase the number of deals or posts, does it?

Help me understand why one should care about having people sign up or lurk.

It seems like some people like to have their club exclusive:dontknow:
I agree with leaving it as it is... people will wander in and many will end up staying. It's a nice place, just give them a chance to see for themselves.

:iagree: i think they just want to have deals last longer/better chance at getting in on most deals.

same kind of thing with contests, the more guest that sign up for the contests the less of a chance a member will win.

If somebody wants in on something bad enough, such as the high value Nicorette coupons I recently offer to mail to people, they'll join up just so they can PM you. One guy did that and now he's looking all over the forum. I was happy about that.

I think the system works as is.

If we have stuff we want only members to have like iTunes codes, just tell people that have to PM you. if they want 'em bad enough, they'll join.
