I am currently looking to buy a 14" laptop and came across the ASUS K40IJ-D1 deal at zipzoomfly.

http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=10011211&prodlist=celebros

currently are there any deals better than this one for something with comparable specs?
any significant drawbacks to this deal?

thanks for your time

Mid $400s or less for a 14" is great, IMHO, especially with C2D T6600.

Not sure about ZZF's mail-in rebate service ($100 mir!!!).

But the specs are awesome.

I think there was an MSI around that price on SDs recently, but that expired, I think. I would rather have this Asus.

To get a really unbeatable deal on a 14", you can always try ebay. I do NOT recommend this for most, and you gotta know what you are doing in terms of laptops, but I got an Acer extensa ex4420-5963 on ebay for $220 after cashback. They have tons of very slightly used Acer extensas for around $200 to $300 with buyitnow, before cashback.

This can be a risk -- again, you are not getting new. But I got one for my wife about 8 months ago, and she has been hammering it every day, 10+ hours a day. I really like the old extensa 14.1" series. I also have one, an intel version with T2310, and it is very nice. I use it much less often, but I do cart it around to coffee shops. I got that one new at BB a few years back, for $399 after $100 internet discount.

But for $200, the old Acers are hard to beat. Keep in mind you'll get Vista and not Windows 7. I installed XP Pro on hers.

Many e-bay laptops are over-priced.

But there seem to be some models in large supply, plus some low sellers every now and then.

Search "acer ex*" (without the quote marks) and narrow the category to laptops.

Also, you can search buy-it-now and do a category search for dual core laptops. Every now and then you will get a seller selling a cheap 14" with a buy-it-now price, which, after 8% cashback, will get you to $250 or so.

Recently, an Acer like I mentioned sold for $199.99 buy-it-now. That was a great deal. I once got a $189.99 buy-it-now laptop dual core laptop (as a gift). It was used and needed a USB wifi card, which I had, but it was cheap: $170 after cashback.
