I've been on boards that have a few forums that are only open to members after they have gained a certain level status.
ie, you can only browse and post that particular forum if you have posted 100, 500, or 1000 posts for instance.
This wouldn't disturb any of the current forums that are available to all, and could drive up membership in hopes of getting more slick deals posted instead of so many guests stopping by to just browse ( not that there's anything wrong with that - been there)

Just clicked on a thread that mentioned something similar, sorry to repost, but a question to the mods would be... is this a consideration?

why having a forum like that? if that's the case, We could have people with over 2000 posts to view things that others can't, but that won't be fair to others. people will spam the forums with post numbers and just to get their post count up. we will see way more thanks, thank yous, etc as a post. some forums sees those as spams and they usually delete them. Does that mean we should copy off their rules as well? I think the forums are fine the way they are now.

actually yes we have talked about it before. We have come to a conclusion that some people would probably just start mass posting non sense stuff just to qualify to the other level. The other problem would be that most of the people that have high post counts probably have a few tricks on how to find deals n stuff. If the deal veterans only hang out in this "members only" forum, they might not want to come out and hang out with the regular users. Catch my drift??

I feel special. Am I the only one to suggest a forum and have it implemented?? :p

I, too, think people would just spam their way up.

As memory serves, the Free Magazines board was spawned off of the Free Stuff board by someone's suggestion. Wish I could remember who.

No, I believe slickdeals is about to implement my suggestion of a "thegoalie praise forum".

By the way, I agree with Oni and Lowpro... making the postcount actually count for something is a bad idea. The forums are already swamped with useless replies such as "thanks" , ":)" or "poop". Its not a good idea to encourage that

no really, I think that a level specific forum would degrade everything. People spam posting, and an exclusive forum would limit the amount of users and discourage new users who often have something to offer.

maybe the secret would be a moderator chosen forum. That way we could all spend countless time kissing butts, hoping to get invited.....It would be like High School all over again

Yeah, it's good to say thanks OCCASIONALLY. If posts actually started counting for something, a lot more would people would be posting, "Thanks!" a lot more often. Then you'd have threads like 5 pages long with 3 pages containing, "Thanks." That would be a problem. It's a Tragedy of the Commons, I say.

I think that idea is just counter to the entire idea of Slickdeals.
And I personally (not that i would make a big deal since a I am for the most part a newbie) would have to stop using the forum. I am just not interested in exclusionistic forums.
And am I spamming when I post a few thanx? Sometime I just like the deal/freebie so much I want to say thanx
