I just went past the 1 year subscription but never received a mail with information on how to cancel, and I was charged 20+ dollars for each sub. There is a number on my AMEX statement that I used to call and cancel: 1-800-321-6247 and I called and it appears I will get the prorated refund.

For those who just signed up can try that number to cancel, I believe you can get it to work and it will still deliver the current sub and not renew it, or call when you are approaching the 12th month.

Assuming you had posted this first, just in the wrong place, wouldn't it have been merged into this thread and then your post would be at the top, having been first via a date stamp listing? I guess you didn't post this first. Hell, it looks like you didn't even post it second, but rather third. Kinda funny how you are trying to claim credit for it however...

Some of the mags are different, these are the ones I noted down:

TIME
Redbook
National Geographic Adventure
Computer Shopper
Jet
Ebony
Wine Spectator
Budget Living
Seventeen
Parents
Cigar Aficionado
The New York Observer
Dog & Kennel
Arts & America
Black Enterprise

Definitely worth a call if you have a AMEX card - it's all automated, takes approx. 5 mins and all you do is punch in your AMEX card number to find out if you're eligible.

Thanks again OP!!!

I LOVE magazines. Thanks so much, OP. Rep point for you. And I don't care if it is a repeat...I didn't see the first one.

As it is, when calling, be sure to wait and let them list all of the magazines for you. I jumped the gun and then they listed some others I would rather have. It is all automated so it isn't like you are delaying someone. Take your time and get the ones you want.

I got Time, National Georgraphic Adventurer and Horticulture. FABULOUS! although I would rather have had Sunset instead of Time, but there doesn't seem to be any way to go back once you have said the name of one of them.

PS...they wouldn't let me give you a rep point...said the post was too old.

I just called the phone number from the "AMEX Cardholder Magazine Subscribers - Read Inside!" thread, and asked about the subscriptions that were on my GC.

The one I tried it on has not yet expired, and has all its money on it.

Just call (877) 543-7564 and use the automated system to cancel. They give you the option to send any issues left on your current subscription and then cancel any upcoming charges. That's what I did

That's what I just did too. Let's hope it works. Otherwise they would probably bill my Amex card, right?

I got different magazine choices than those listed, but I can't begin to type them all...I've got "medicine head" from a cold. I picked Harper's Bizarre, Southern Living and Reader's Digest.

Does this work with AMEX prepaid gift cards?

I wouldn't be able to gift a subscription to someone else b/c they could automatically renew & it would get charged to my card, right?

Instead of calling that automated system, you can call AMEX's VIP Magazine service @ 18007747746 and get any 6 magazines (not limited to some lousy pre-selection) for a year free.

It's a year, not 6 months, and Amex sends you a postcard via snail mail reminding you that it will auto-renew if you don't cancel. I've done this several times and it's a great way to get subscriptions to magazines which you don't always find free subs for.

I just went past the 1 year subscription but never received a mail with information on how to cancel, and I was charged 20+ dollars for each sub.

There is a number on my AMEX statement that I used to call and cancel: 1-800-321-6247 and I called and it appears I will get the prorated refund.

I'll put this in the WIKI, those who just signed up can try that number to cancel, I believe you can get it to work and it will still deliver the current sub and not renew it.

I have 2 different Amex accounts, and it worked fine for me..
The prompts etc are easy to follow, and never had a problem so far... Well, one issue did not arrive, spoke with a live person, and they immediately solved the problem.. Otherwise I am very satisfied, and plan on keeping my Amex accounts!!

The phone number at the beginning is where you can order the magazines but there is no where to see if you've done it properly or to see the status of the magazines. It has been months and I still haven't received a copy of the magazines that I ordered.

I'm not sure if they were referring to the Bank of America offer of the AmEx offer but on FWsite there was this post #2 in this thread from 2005:
http://www.fatwallet.com/forums/hot-deals/557495/?start=0

"I finally get a number to reach a live person directly 1-888-321-6247, press 0 a few times should work. The company responsible for this service is http://www.magazineoutlet.com/
Hope this is helpful."

Also near the bottom of page 8 of that thread:
"I just called 1-888-321-6247 and spoke to a living human. You have to hit 0 a few times. He let me have 4 magazines on my AMEX card with the same deal.He said that a postcard would be sent at the end of the subscription time but I'll mark it on my calender just to be sure."

I haven't tried it myself yet since it's only been 3 weeks' waiting for me so far.

For what it's worth, I called Amex Customer Service, and they told me they hve discontinued this service because they were having so many probems (customers were not receiving the magazines, were being billed, etc). Calling the automated magazine number (which is a magazine company number) still works, and immedately prompts you for your credit card info. I'd be cautious.
