View Full Version : Dish Network: $51.96/month FOREVER for all HD Channels

OK, after having digital cable for years, I finally made a switch. As with most people, we had pretty much every channel and only seemed to watch the HD channels.

Well, I called Dish and they have a package, not offered online, called "Turbo HD Silver Package" or "All HD Package-Silver". This package is 44.99, plus a DVR/HD combo makes it 51.96 and they can use it in two rooms so you can record and watch in either room.

You get 85+ HD channels and its all the important ones, for those that don't care about the music channels or other crappy ones that you never, or rarely ever, watch.

To make it sweeter, its qualifies for the discount for one year, making it $36 for a year then 51.96 forever!

I think this is a slickdeal, for those that don't need all the crap, you finally don't have to pay for it!

Here is the link: http://www.dishnetwork.com/hdtv/customer.aspx (Its the center one)

Here is the list of channels, note you still get: A&E ABC, CMT CNBC, CNN, Comedy, Discovery, Disney, ESPN, ESPN2, food, FOX, FX, Golf, History, Liftime, MSNBC, MTV, NBA, NFL, SPEED, Spike, TBS, TLC, TNT, Travel, USA, VH1, WGN

Don't trust Dish on any all HD promises. Sure, you will get all the HD channels they offer right now for this price, but you may not get any more when new HD channels are added. Dish had several "All" HD programs before this. The one I'm on doesn't have some of the later added HD channels.

HD comparison Dish vs Direct vc Fios vs Comcast etc

Beware of Dish's Customer support agreement. During the commitment period, if you move and can't have dish at your new place, you will still be charged with the disconnection fee! Read it or weep later!

^They can't charge you if it is impossible to have a dish or merely impracticable for you to have a dish at your new location. Its still a good deal for those that don't know about it like me. Isn't that what this site is about?

No, it can be subscribed to by itself. Oh, and thats OTD, no other taxes, fees, etc...WAY better than anything else.

It's new to me. Is it only the 85 channels because we need some one from the Americas 250 package like The Science Channel, History International, DIY network and G4. Is there a "Turbo HD Gold Package"?

NightHawk87

Ray, 2 year contract can be avoided for a $99 fee, but at this price the whole point is to not have to worry about cancelling, plus you only pay $36 for the first year so its worth it!

Are you saying that they will never raise the rates for this so long as you maintain your subscription? If so, then this is great news.

Thanks OP, I just called Dish and the rep said it's called Dish America's Silver Package. He told me it's $39.99? Either way, I think I'm gonna get this instead of America's top 120 package. Your right, it basically gets rid of those crappy CD and channels I don't watch, and gives me channels like Speed, NBA/NFL/NHL, and animal planet that I don't have but would prefer.

can you share a bit more about Absolute HD for $34.99/mo.
Is this because you get $10 off / month because you signed a 2-year agreement recently?
Is the AbsoluteHD a package that used to be available or is now recently available?

Thanks

No, elgantscorpio, its by itself....thats the point! Only 44.99/month for the channels that people really watch. Why pay for channels you don't want. Granted, I would opt for it cheaper if I could get rid of even more channels on there that I don't watch. but about 85% of them I do, so now I'm only paying for 15% of the channels I don't like, as opposed to like 70% before.

You have to wonder why these companies are beginning to offer low rates and trying to get people under contract for long term under a certain price. I'll tell you why. The prices will only go down from here on until they match the price level offered elsewhere in the world. My cousin lives in UK and pays 27 pounds or around 50 bucks for his TV, unlimited internet and unlimited phone with Virgin. Prices in the US will eventually come down to that level. Notice how much they've come down in the last 2 years. And not just that, notice how much prices of the cell phone plans have come down so much as well.

Alot of us got screwed over on the "Absolute" deal as they eventually told us no more new HD channels. I was PISSED! The rate wont go up but what will happen is when they introduce new HD channels....you wont be able to get them on this package. You will have to upgrade to another package to include them. They did the same thing 2-3 years ago when they had all HD channels for $24.99.

hollywdbri

Does this apply to future HD channels? You may get a decent lock-in price but in a year be stuck with old channels.

I have a grandfathered package with Directv and I always call to cancel and tell them I'm switching to Dish to keep the credits. But they keep increasing the standard rate so I still end up paying more yearly and they said they cant do anything with that. I started at around $35 and now it's $47 for Total Choice HD. I doubt that you can lock in the $51.96/mo FOREVER with Dish.

I think you're forgetting about the DVR and HD receiver fees (and taxes?)

Also, the "DVR you can watch/record in 2 rooms" only works with one HDTV. The output for the 2nd TV is SD.

They are supposed to be working on a box that does HD on both tv's, but it keeps getting delayed as they work on the technology. I have 2 HD TV's but refuse to buy a 2nd box as I dont want to lock in for another 2 years nor pay more for 2 boxes. I dont want 2 boxes, I want 1 that does the job of 2. In fact I want HD signal going to 4 rooms like a standard def signal can do.

Not exactly true...Tuner 1 for the Dish 722 DVR has 2 HD outputs that are always on. You can run it to a second bedroom but of course both TV's can only watch the same program. We run it this way in my house just in case we want to watch a show in HD in the bedroom.

You won't get every HD channel forever.
You will have them until Dish decides to not include you in the new HD updates.

They have done this to lots of customers, myself included.

But even tho I don't get every HD channel, I am still happy with my service.
10x better than Direct was and cost a lot less for better equipment and service.

I have the 2 room SD DVR in my house. I have signal 1 split and going to the upstaris and downstairs family rooms (same show on both TV's). Then I have signal 2 going to just my bedroom. This is done all through coax. Can I do this same thing with the 722? Having the receiver in my utility room and still get the HD signal to the two HDTV's, or will it only do HD over HDMI?

I had DishTV and lighting hit the Dish and shorted out my TVs and quite a few other electric motors in my house/garage. The next year, I had Direct TV and the same thing happened. I won't have either again. Since then, I have never had a similar electrical issue.

Both suck. Their customer service sucks. You have to pay a whole lot of hidden fees, like maintenance fees or lease fees. If something happens to their receiver, they want to charge you.

Stay away. Go free antenna or cheap cable.

I was specifically responding to the "watch/record" function. Pretty much any HD receiver can output an HD signal via HDMI and component simultaneously. Most people don't want to run 50 foot cables between rooms.

But I found out I have watched SpeedHD once and that too a DVRed recording of the Malaysian F1 GP, and all the BBC shows I am just downloading them. Anyone using Dish network in the Chicagoland area? I'm in the NW suburbs and would love to not have to use Comcast (abysmally awful receiver, intermittent service, bad customer service)

My only concern is that I won't get Versus, Comcast Chicago and WGN Chicago with this package; and if not, what's the cost to ad them?

I can't be ordering a package and not be able to catch all the Hawks and Cubs games!

Because Free antenna or cheap cable sounds like fun!! hahah..I dont want to go back to 1980's anymore.. A good surge protector would have prevented this. Also, you can mount the dish on the side of the house closer to ground too...

I have DirecTV (which has more HD channels than dish) and currently watching 8 MLB games a day. Cant do that with Dish.. Oh, I do agree with ya that customer service is not that good, but that goes for every TV service including cable and satellite.

Satellite is always better than cable because its cheaper and more channels. If your a sports fan, get DirecTV.. If not, save some$$ and get dish (if you can deal with less HD channels which I could not).

Being a long time Directv customer who has tried Dish, thought I'd put in my 2 cents.

I am not quite sure about the pricing as everybody has deals and packages and changes prices all the time. But you CANNOT beat the technology that Directv provides. They have the most HD channels. They have the biggest DVR - and its hard to fill up. They have internet apps for free. They are about to come out with multi room watching so you can record on 1 tv and watch in another room, but its better than U-verse cuz with that you only get 1 dvr for the whole house and here you can have many like i do. And my FAVORITE thing is this media extender they have which is meant for streaming pictures and music from your computer to your TV but also works with video files. So for free i stream movies on my computer to my TV. Like a WD Live, ps3 or an xbox 360 (none of which i have)
they come out with new features all the time that i love. It might not be the absolute cheapest, but I believe they are similar, but its definitely the best viewing experience.

Had DirecTV and DISH. DirecTV cheaper and better quality.

However, in respect to this deal with Dish (because I have them now), the "plan" they quoted you does NOT include some of the best stuff, like DIY, the best Kids programs, NatGeo and more. That's another $10. Add the lease fee for each DVR (in my case 2 of them) and you're already at $73 p/month before taxes and other fees.

So, make SURE you know what it's going to cost you.

Man...the Top 250 is tempting to me. I'm with Comcast now, and they just bumped my rates back up after all the promos from threatening to quit last year have expired :( Two channels I need in HD (and pay $8 a month just for one) BBC America and Fox Soccer Channel are on Dish, with Comcast having no clue when they will have them. So I'm looking at $63(ish) for the first year plus taxes and then $80ish for the second. If I could refer some people however, it becomes more attractive (Club Dish).

I did have Dish about 6 years ago, and the dish is still on the roof! I don't want them hooking that old thing back up for sure...it's positioned wrong and I always lost programming in a storm, which we get often. Ohhhhh....the pros and cons of having one company vs another.

I called as a New Customer, and they laughed me off the phone saying it's not even in their system to offer anymore!

You need to have the OP's customer service number...he can get you the deal because he works for Dish.

I always see signs plastered on telephone poles to get this (for the past few years) or Directv for $19.99/month... I never sign up because of the outrageous prices after a certain amount of time... and cable has always been cheaper if you're in the burbs/city..

Ok you guys,

I do not work for dish

Read the original post, this price includes the dvr which works on two tvs

Ask for exactly what I put in the post by name! It exists I just got it yesterday. In fact I decided against it first, then called back got a diff csr and they gave me the same deal, it's a standard deal.

Only you can decide if those channels are good for you. I'm simply demonstrating that it includes like 99% of the channels most want fir way less and without the bs.

Someone that can read the first call then post it worked cause it will. Either I don't care I was just helping out everyone since I benifit all the time from this site.

Thanks!

I still have the Absolute deal, and I am still paying 34.99 for HD and 1 cent for 8 channels of Cinemax. I was not aware they have HD that I do not get.

How do I document what I am getting verses ALL HD?

How do I document the promise - which I recall - that I would get all HD channels?

I am ready to fight!

They did change the name from TurboHD but it's the same package as before (All HD only).
The only big problem is you will NEVER get any new channel additions in the future such as Style HD, TCM HD, QVC HD, G4 HD and HLN HD.

I just spoke to a dish rep and they DO have all HD only packages. However, the price difference for the 85 HD channel package is only $13 lower than the top 200 with 85 HD package. If you're an exisiting customer like myself under the 12 month promotion rate, you will lose that promotion if you switch.

I don't think they have a promo for new customers on these all hd packages either.

Vp, you made my point, why spend $13 on the other crap you don't watch. Look up what you get xtra for $13 and come back and tell me it's worth it. It's not! That's what the whole purpose of the deal was. To let people know they really can pay for just what they want

it's not advertised which is what makes it slick!

It might not be the absolute cheapest, but I believe they are similar, but its definitely the best viewing experience.

even if all of what you've said were false, I'd still go with directv cuz dish network's customer support is horrible!

For those of you interested in this ....

Thought you should know that you won't get the entire list of HD channels listed in the Silver HD Package.

There are certain channels that, because of their contract with DISH Network, are only included in certain packages. Since they took this package "away," they refer you to the Silver HD Channel Lineup, but that is not entirely the case.

I know that Fox News Channel is FOR SURE one of the channels that you WILL NOT receive with this HD-only package .... but I know there are a couple others.

The guy is currently saying that the HD Silver package is legit and for me would be 57.99 for 1 HD DVR and 1 HD Box.

However, he says the 15 dollar new customer discount DOES NOT apply. It only applies to the top 120, 200, 250 etc packages.

I'm signed up in February so I'm gonna wait until my 3 month promo on hbo/showtime/cinemax run out before I mess with my programming.

This seems interesting though, I find myself watching HD channels only. I would hate to miss out on new channels thuogh

I switched over about 8 months ago. This was when the last real big group of HD channels came on board; Nick, MTV and all those, plus Speed I think.

Things might be different now, but as I recall, Dish had to offer both HD and SD channels and therefore stopped adding to the Turbo packages. Someone please comment if you recall.

One thing I haven't seen mentioned after the OP's post regarding the DVR and using it in two rooms... and probably should be noted since you're getting it all "HD"... that while it is true you can use the DVR in two rooms, the 2nd connection won't be in HD... which kind of defeats the purpose of this particular package.

That's also why I switched to Uverse a year ago and haven't looked at Dish since.

You're both correct, the Dish America's packages (HD only) channel guide is not listed on Dish's own site, it's only on their internal site and what 3rd party sites are listing is incorrect.

a.e. im talking to them via chat and just got a different list of channels.

Let's see what you get, they promised to email me the channel guide but I've got nothing so far.

edit: Do you know for what Dish America package (bronze, silver or gold) that list is for?

The Dish America packages suck, a bunch of popular channels are not included even in the gold package.

so the way this is boiling down for me is:

57.99 for HD only channels i listed above

or 60.99 for 12 months, 75.99 for the 2nd year for this top 200 package which is this channel lineup (HD only):

I knew I should have kept my current programming.... I had the America's top 200 with DVR service and upgraded to what the CSR said would be the "equivalent" HD only package. Now I'm stuck with Dish America Silver for 2 years and the channels we watch aren't in the lineup...

Thats what the Service Rep. said. You have to specifically ask that they not change your rates and make a note that you want the perm. price.

And here is where the scam lies. How many people are not going to know to do this and see their rates increased? Why can't they just be upfront and honest about this? I also heard once you sign up, it is impossible to cancel. You can never get through on the phone. They make it that way on purpose.

I also had a buddy sign up for Dish and when the guys came to install it, they pestered him to upgrade so much that he finally had to tell them to leave and didn't get anything.

I was with Dish for over 10 years. They keep chumming for new customers with lipstick, razzle dazzle discounts and repackaging. This is their bread and butter-the newbie. I got so tired of seeing the same thing over and over and over. I don't discourage anyone from signing up, but understand sooner or later you will realize there's nothing but reruns, commercials and shopping channels. This includes the "premium" channels. The movie channels broadcast from the same pile of crap on a rotating basis. There are exceptions, but not enough to justify the increased cost.

As for Direct TV, I called them to be removed from their mailing list and learned enough from the attitude of the "customer service" reps to never ever want to go there. Pure attitude.

Good luck and and enjoy the show. One year-600.00, 5 years-3000.00

They are laughing all the way to the bank.

why dont you just use an hd receiver on your sd tv?

I cant just use hd reciever on the second tv, cause I have 2 tvs hooked to the hd reciever, and I have another 2 tvs to the sd reciever.

you said you wouldnt do it because your second receiver needed to be SD

you can use an HD receiver on SD tvs, so just use 2 HD receivers for 2 HDTVs and 2 SDTVs

or use the 722 on 1 hdtv and 1 sdtv, and the 211 (i think thats the number) on 1 hdtv and 1 sdtv.

After reading all the DTV/Dish threads, it looks like the best way to go is to switch service every two years so you get the latest equipment and a 12 month discount every time.

I google it and find plenty of those promotion, which is $5 cheaper from getting the same thing from Dish.

your link is useless since it does not include the HD only packages that we are talking about.
.

it was so people can see the additional fees per receiver. a second receiver can be $17 extra.

I have Cband Big Dish and I'm looking to switch to small dish. I don't care about sports channels but I do care about getting the most HD channels - if they are channels I'd watch. What HD channels does Direct TV offer that Dish does not?

Its just the dish promotion without the local channels, if you want those (Fox, CBS, ABC, NBC, etc) it will come to the same price.

Looks like the Americas 250 + HD is the way to go for me. Dish mailed an offer for a free $25 prepaid MasterCard, but the offer code: PDP CORN for $75 trumps that.

I don't get the metal packs, they just offer 120, 200 and 250 with a flat $10 to add HD.

In the list of channels it shows Big Ten network2. I followed the link and the 2 is a footnote to show that it is only available in a few midwest states. Can anyone in Socal who has dish confirm that they do or do not get this channel? As a displaced Penn Stater this is the channel that would get me to switch. Want to know from someone with first hand knowledge, not a customer service rep who is trying to sell me.
Know that Dish has told me the Big 10 network is not available in the northeast (CT). They treat it as a local channel offering, therefore it is mostly only available in states in the Midwest near or with a Big 10 school.

Has anyone here got HD Absolute package and expiring soon? My 2 year HD Abs will end this month and I don't know what will happen to it. I'd like to keep it because it's cheap ($30/month). Will DISH auto-upgrade to a more pricey existing package or will it stays the same unless we call them up and upgrade?

I HATE DISH NETWORK!
I signed up with them in January and have regretted it.
They will lie and tell you anything they feel like over the phone.
Later you will find out it isn't true.
I can't wait for my 2 years to be up so I can get off of dish and onto something else.

When I signed up one thing they told me was I could buy a HD that I could plug into my non dvr box then pay a one time fee and then that box would become a DVR. Well a few months later I asked they said no that wasn't true. So they said I could pay 100 for a DVR upgrade, I said okay, I asked if it was going to be the same box as my other one which is a 722 and they said it would be the same. Well it gets here and it is a 622. I called and complained because well I paid 100 and they told me I was getting a 722, they said they would send me a 722 which was another lie, they won't send me the 722.

I'm in Connecticut and a very happy AT&T Uverse customer. I went with Dish twice over the last 3 years and was screwed both times. Dish were indeed liars and their CSRs were really really bad. Same with Cablevision. Although I'm now paying a little more than what I would pay if I had Cablevision, I'm very satisfied with AT&T Customer service and the quality of the picture, the DVR service and very quick responsive Guide menu system.

Standard HD channels are either 720p or 1080i. PPV or On Demand movies are in 1080p (advertised). I've watch a few that was advertised as 1080p, and seriously doubt that the picture quality could rival the same which came from blu ray source.

I have been on my DISHHD Absolute package for almost 3 years now and absolutely love it. I received a letter from Dish last week telling me that starting February 2011, they will be removing it from my account because it is no longer offered and will upgrade me to their current programming offers (America's Top 200).

Anyone received the same letter? Is there anything I can do to stop them from upgrading my service? I'd rather have my service cancelled if they want me to change my programming to a more expensive one.

Yeah I got that letter too, with the same end date. I was thinking about switching to DirectTV, but I think I'll hold on a bit because the letter says that they will switch you to America's Top 200 with free HD and free Platinum HD for 12 months, the last paragraph also says to help with the transition you'll start to see a credit for the next 12 months. I'm not sure what this credit is, but America's Top 200 w/the free HD packages isn't too bad for $40/month (12 month special, assuming we're getting it at this price), plus no new agreement is needed.

Does not include MLB and NFL games... Forever.. Thumbs down. DirecTV will always be better.

DirecTV can keep their NFL games. Won't matter to me because I am always going to watch the home team! What good are the other games? I already spend too much time
just watching the home teams. I don't need to live in a cave.

Yep I got the same letter, although I remembered getting a similar letter like that last year around the same time but nothing happened. I guess I will wait and see what happens next month. If they do change it and the price is more than $10 higher, I will probably just call them up and cancel everything. A few years ago you could buy a FTA receiver, download a special firmware update, and it would unscramble all of Dish Network's channels. It was like the everything package(All channels, Pay-Per-View, Porn, etc) for free. :yummy: Dish network upgraded their encryption to Nagra3. It has not been cracked yet. :(

Is it called the Dish America package now? How do you compare this with top 120 package? I'm thinking of doing the same. I would like to know your experiences.

I have a package not listed online called Dish America ($29.99) which is basically all the HD channels that comes with America's Top 120 ($39.99) + $10 for HD.
Well for all the HD channels I get I get their SD version also and yes I can watch it on a second TV.

I found out yesterday that they jacked up my price to $55 +$6 DVR fee from $30 +$6 DVR fee. They upgraded my HD Absolute plan to Americas Top 200 plus HD 200 free plus Platinum HD free for 12mos.
