Anyone looking forward for this game? I remember playing the initial release of NS and it was crazy fun to play with friends. It was so intense trying to hold of your resource nodes. The new one looks pretty cool.

Oh the good ol' days of chomping up some humans! It's been so long since I played NS. First time I was like wtf is this? An RTS/FPS hybrid?!? Too much fun!

Oh man I loved NS. I don't even care the graphics sucked... the concept was so fun and they really started ironing things out. I used to love ns maps, but then I soon grew to love the combat maps... especially on the modded servers so you could keep excelling.
Funtastic game!!

Oh man it is a fun game if you got a good team that can work together. I haven't played in so long and found about about NS 2 so I'm excited. I just know there's maps where you have to control resource points and you can built defenses, like an RTS but then you attack the opposing team. I love crawling on the walls waiting to backstab the humans walking around. Then I can remember building a wall of defense towers as the alien race. Good times.

I played this once or twice years ago but I didn't really understand what was going on and just didn't play it anymore.
It seemed very difficult to figure out (don't remember a tutorial) and I didn't have the patience.

Ns mode can get kind of confusing... combat is pretty easy to pick up.

yeah being commander or gorge was the challenging part.

Yeah.. but it's an RTS w/REAL ppl as the units!!!
I was really impressed to see how much NS was able to get out of the half-life engine...

yes it's PC only. If I can remember right, the human said you have a commander who builds on resource nodes, can built base defenses, healing stations and crap. Then you have real people as units who's objective is to take control of more resources and control the map. The commander can buy weapons and drop them for people to use as well along with armor and stuff.
The gorge side, you spawn your self as different units. You can turn into a builder who can build on resources, and build defenses, etc

Ok.. so whoever wants to be comm can jump in the commander pod and he will see an overview of the map ( http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/en/thumb/7/76/Natural_Selection_Commander_Top_Down_View.jpg/250px-Natural_Selection_Commander_Top_Down_View.jpg ). Yes, there's a way to eject the comm in the event you have a dumbass, and anyone can jump in it, so if the comm jumps out for a sec and gets himself killed, you can keep giving orders.
From the com, he can give directives to people (and they have the freedom to do it or ignore it), you can drop items around certain machines and you can drop some items anywhere (ammo/hp). Each side has resources to manage, and a good comm will push people to get more resource nodes, and use resources to upgrade/build/support efficiently.
Gorges are on their own, and there can be multiple gorges. They physically have to get to the spot they want to build/heal, so there's no map overview. The amount of gorges is usually limited by some ratio of [x] creature type to gorges (in some servers all critter types have ratios to keep things balanced). Each gorge has an individual resource meter, just like each individual alien player, which is something different than what the humans face. All aliens collectively get a portion of the resources for their team, so the more aliens, the more resource nodes you'll need, or the whole team could suffer.
Gorges can build structures, heal structures/players and upgrade just like any other alien player can. They have limited attack, but some things are quite useful, for instance the ability to toss webbing down which slows humans and disables their weapons for a small period of time, and they have a bile bomb that does massive damage to human structures and has splash (but again, they have to physically GET there first, and they're short, fat things).
If that's not cool enough for you, they did an amazing job actually making different TYPES of creatures for aliens.
- Skulks are very low to the ground, chomp (melee), can leap, and can explode themselves to bomb stuff (yes, that's a death for the skulk and has to wait the normal time to respawn).
- Gorges are low to the ground, move slow, and build stuff
- Lerks are low to the ground but can fly and do melee attacks. Their flying takes a bit of getting used to as each jump counts as a wing flap, while held jump is coasting. They can shoot a choking gas that does a little damage to humans, or a gas that will make bullets hurt less, or a primal scream which will speed up all surrounding aliens
- Fades are incredibly fun. They're a little taller than a human, have a melee attack, and warp around as movement. They can also get an attack that regenerates health (so warp in, attack, warp out, heal), and they can get a projectile attack, though it doesn't do that much damage
- Onos are huge beasts. They're like a big rhino and have a melee attack w/their horn. They have tons of HP and tons of armor and can eat and digest humans. They also have a stomp that will paralyze anything in its path and can do a roar which will make ramming things do damage.
There are a lot of other special things about the alien race that make it pretty different from almost every other game out there.
It's just a really cool... fun and very different game to play.

You definitely DO NOT need a good PC to play this. Graphics aren't fantastic.
If you can play half-life 1, you can play this... but be prepared for everything to look completely different and play completely different than any other FPS including half life.

this could be said about NS1, but i'm not sure if a crappy comp can handle NS2's new graphics

I'd have to agree with Iczer on this one. On a side note, I think this game is going to be awesome! I remember the good old 4 hour NS1 games at some LAN parties with my friends. The ones where we had 3 aliens vs. 7 marines. Ah, good times. :)

Just wanted to bump this thread. I ordered my special edition so I got into the Alpha. Needless to say, it looks promising but is a ways away from being stable. I can hardly join games, the game is nowhere close to being optimized and there's a long list of things that need work. But that is to be expected with Alpha. From what I can see, the new engine looks like this will be pretty badass when it's up and working.
Anyone else in Alpha?

I was considering buying the special edition, but then I reconsidered. I liked NS1, but it never held my attention long enough. We'll see about NS2. It looks sweet though.
