View Full Version : Got a Playstation 3 120GB - CECH 2101A (new model!)

Bought a Playstation 3 120GB from Amazon on got the Newer model CECH 2101A.
Heard it uses a smaller chip and runs cooler and is more quiet than the older versions. Yeay..so any one else got this model too? i dont think it looks any different and i have no idea performance wise as this is my 1st PS. so any of you guys got the newer version?

FYI, Amazon started selling the 2101A model on March 1st. I had over $180 in credit at a retailer so I went that route and didn't get a 2101A.

If Amazon started selling it March 1, then I have the new model too! :woot:
I've liked it so far. First and only PS3 though for me.

Model number mentioned on the bottom of the Box.
Amazon Customer discussions show that not everyone got the CECH 2101A.
When did you purchase the Playstation?

I wonder when those people ordered their PS3's. What I do know is that on March 1st, the 120GB PS3 listing had "newest version" labeled next to the price and when I sent an inquiry to CS, they assured me that if I were to order from them, the model was confirmed as CECH-2101A.

ohh maybe they bought it on amazon at the time when Amazon Ps3's were out of stock and the other sellers were selling PS3's for $350 or so on amazon.
I just got a CECH-2101A from Amazon too!
Ordered it on 5/21, got it today.

3 years later and mine still works flawlessly (modded to 320gb with a 7200rpm drive). The new ones are getting YLoDs and disc drive failures. ROFL MODE ACTIVATED! Are you following me throughout SD? My first stalker, how sweet!

Except launch PS3s are most likely to have blu-ray drive problems and the 7200 rpm HD does nothing but make your PS3 get hotter? You win the prize!

They (SCE) went with a new provider for some of the internal components. New Bluetooth board, new fan, smaller sized RSX and overall the system is about a half pound lighter. It's not so much that it is "better" but since it was a revision, Sony had to go through the process of getting approval to sell the updated PS3 and of course, they had to give it a new model number. Such is the way of business.

Plus Sony now likes to sell a "Slim" of each model. The PS1 got smaller, the PS2 got smaller, so now the PS3 must follow suit.

I've used ps3 first model for 3 yrs and never had any issues. heat is the only complaint but that's ok. i've enough ventilation and the animal runs like cheetah for several hrs.

Bah...after getting the 2101A, there's another version already in the market now, the 2500 series (http://boardsus.playstation.com/t5/PlayStation-3-General/Official-PS3-Slim-2500-Specs/m-p/45893330).
