Another Caribbean Infection Story...
Last year when my parents were in St. Martin my dad was eating fish, and he poked his mouth with one of the bones. He was there for a few more days, and could feel that it was pretty tender and was hurting a little. Day after he got back the infection really took off and the entire side of his face swelled right up to the point that my mom could only recognize him because of the old beat up shoes he was wearing. He went to the ER and was there for a good 2-3 days on antibiotics.

Coral's pretty bad, but are you guys sure it was coral? I've heard horror stories about what cutting your foot on coral can do, but only a couple like this. Is it possible that something like a lion fish, sea anemone, or urchin got him and he just thought it was the coral?

That said, I hope he gets better soon. We need someone to constantly berate Autumn, and no one does it near as well as TS.

On Tuesday I developed a blister. It burst but is still an open wound. I think this was the opportunity for the infection to develop while snorkeling in Grand Cayman and Cozumel (or even from the ship). I also got two additional blisters on the same toe. Like an idiot I did not get them treated so they got worse.


Still in the hospital. Have had several rounds of antibiotics, 3 doses of anti-seizure meds, an MRI of the toe, an EEG, an EKG, a CT, and an ultrasound of the blood vessels in the neck.

The neurologist just left. He does not feel like I have a seizure disorder. He feels like it was a combination of my unfortunate visceral reaction to needles plus the stress of being in the ER and the infection.

Foot doc left a bit ago. They are going to lance it and drain it some this afternoon.
It is a staph infection but not necessarily MRSA.

No PICC line. I don't expect one.
No one seems to be overly concerned. Draining it will allow for more cultures to be taken in addition to the ones taken Sun night.
The foot doc will start applying (or having the nurses do it) a local antibiotic to the wound site after it is drained. He said that the antib's will keep it from spreading but until they drain the site and clean it the antib's won't really help with the actual infection.
