View Full Version : Firefox DOES NOT REMEMBER login information for Slickdeals.net

O.K. One of my favorite features of Firefox browser is that it can remember my login information (i.e. user name & password) when I visit websites so that I can just "click" the login button and not have to type my information.
However, when I visit the Slickdeals.net Forum and login with my information, Firefox doesn't seem to have a care in the world about saving my information (usually it will ask if I want the browser to "remember" my information). But here, it doesn't!
Is this happening to everybody? Or does this have anything to do with the login field for the forums being in a different "frame" within the website encoding?
Help!!
btw... there are a slight few websites where firefox will do the same and "not ask me if I want it to remember," BUT NOT MANY!

Make sure your FF is accepting cookies or has the history to save up to a few days. That was the problem I had. Once I set my FF to accept cookies, I was fine.

Yeah but I have my firefox set to delete all cookies upon exiting. Is there a way to set firefox so that it permanently saves just one cookie?? (slickdeal cookie)

Not that I am aware of (and that's why it's requiring you to log in each time).

Yeah, I didn't think that there was.
This whole issue could be fixed if Mr. SlickDeal would put the login/password box outside of the separate frame and onto the main webpage frame.

How? You'd still have your FF set to not accept cookie, so that would mean that it still would require you to log in at each visit.

You need to try Cookie status (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/moreinfo.php?id=851&application=firefox) extension. It should offer you the functionality you need.

It should offer you the functionality you need.I haven't tried that extension, but the info does not say it prevents some cookies from being deleted upon exit if all others are.
One way around OP's problem would be to:
Save the desired cookies in a separate folder.
Create a batch file that first copies the saved cookies to the appropriate folder in %userprofile%\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\Default User\.
Then, the batch file would start Firefox.
Create a desktop shortcut to this batch file.Periodically, the user may need to refresh the saved cookie folder contents, in case the cookies change.

It says that "you can refuse cookies by default and use Cookie button to allow the sites you choose." :dontknow:
I haven't tried it, but it looks promising. Your way works, too, but many users wouldn't know how to do what you suggest. Installing an extension is easier.
There are lots of cookie extensions, so if the one I posted doesn't work, there are dozens more that might do the trick. The OP just needs to find one that works for him. He can go to the Firefox Extension home page (https://addons.mozilla.org/extensions/?application=firefox) and search on "cookies" to find an extension that will do what he needs.

It's not about firefox accepting cookies folks...it's about firefox "remembering" your username and password entered into the form.
This is a whole separate function of firefox that I utilize. To heck w/the cookies. :offtopic:

I've never used Firefox, but I imagine the way it "remembers" your info is through cookies...

LOOK... I have my firefox set to delete all cookies and other personal information everytime I exit/close the browser.
There is another function within firefox that will remember your user names and passwords for different websites so that when you return to those websites you only have to click the "login/submit" button rather than take the 5 seconds to enter your info into the fields.
Does anyone know what the fark i'm talking about???

Yes. Many sites have this function purposefully disabled to help avoid stolen accounts. SD is one of those sites, and what you are asking will not be implemented here.
However, as a fix, you can use a Firefox extension for cookies to remember only your SD login. This way, you can delete all your other cookies and keep the SD login cookie, and you won't have to log in every time.
Or, you can just enter your user ID and password every time you visit the site. It's up to you. :dontknow:

O.K. Raddish, this sounds like the answer. If, and only if, you have the time available, please provide me the direct link to do this and complete instructions. This will be greatly appreciated. :worship:

I gave you the link [scroll up (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?p=2423216#post2423216)]. You'll have to follow the directions on your own, though.
