iOS 4.02 has just been released so Apple will stop signing 4.01 preventing you from restoring to 4.01 unless you have saved your SHSH blobs. You probably have at best several hours to get this done.

If you don't know what this means, you can find out why it's important here.

This is very important on the iPhone 3GS and 4 and makes life a lot more convenient on the iPhone 3G.

you look at a lot of pdf's on your phone?
because all it does is block the pdf rooting hole.

There's a free Cydia app "PDF Loading Warner" that pops up an alert before loading a PDF giving you a chance to avoid loading ones on pages that you don't trust.

There's also supposed to be a real fix coming for jailbreak devices that actually closes the hole.

I just checked and Apple still seems to be signing iOS 4.01 but they won't be much longer based on past history.

If I have a device running 3.0, and I backed up my shsh through cydia, will I be able to restore to 3.1.3 or will the backed-up shsh blob only allow me to go back to 3.0 if I ever upgrade?

SHSH blobs are OS version specific and only let you let back to that version. BUT...you don't have to have an OS version loaded to get the SHSH blobs for that version as long as Apple is still signing it. Saurik has been storing them for each OS release while Apple was signing them for folks who gave him permission.

I don't know if you actually had to start Cydia while Apple was signing a particular OS or if he has just been getting them for all users as they've been available. (I have 3.13/4.0/4.01 stored on Cydia even though I'm still on 3.1.2)

Open Cydia and check the message on the top of the first page to see what versions it has stored for your iDevice and/or use Firmware umbrella to check Cydia and store a local copy. (The status message is not always current)

Are there any SHSH checks for the first generation iPhone (not that it really matters because the latest firmware is still jailbreakable).

When exactly did Apple stop signing 4.0 or the iPod Touch? My friend backed up their SHSH blob a day after this thread started, but now Cydia says it has 4.0 on file, not 4.0.2?

Did Apple even stop signing iPod Touch SHSHs?
