In my focus groups it's placing them as one LONG post, so now I am placing them in open forum to stop that. They are NOT the same offer or state.

It's suppose to keep down on PW, but in your case, Selma, yeah it sucks. I don't see any problem with keeping your posts as individual threads, considering the new merging & official thread rules.

Only prob with it, it's gonna clog up the forum which is why I started the thread. Keep them in their own little corner. Thanks kel_be

What the heck? I responded to a post in a thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=13265&t=227799) (post 11) this morning. A minute or two later, I responded to another post in the same thread, but on a different subject. My posts were automatically merged, even though they had very little to do with each other. In this particular case, I had quoted the second person I was replying to, which makes for a semi-logical transition between subjects. But there will be plenty of times where people don't. Nothing we way will make sense if we post twice in the same thread. And besides, who wants to see this at the bottom of all their posts?

benjie, I understand your point but from what I have seen, the good vastly outweights the bad with this. There are many times when people will respond to several people and you see 4 or 5 posts in a row by the same person. The proper way was always to put this in one thread but that was time consuming since you could only reply to 1 at a time. This makes it easier.

There are legitimate cases where it is bad, as Selma pointed out, but overall, it seems to be a change for the better IMO.

I have to disagree. One person having a few posts in a row has never bothered me. If we had people filling up an entire page on a thread (15 posts), that would be another story. But since we don't, I don't see the automerge as anything good.

:iagree: Just look at this (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?p=2544261&posted=1#post2544261) thread, for instance...

Take away the Automerge, PLEASE!!!

Besides, who cares about PWs? If some loser's only reason to post is to get his "special number" up to a certain level, why should anyone care? It shouldn't be an issue, IMO...

If you can't tell, I'm a HUGE stickler for formatting. If I can't format my posts right, they just lose meaning... This new feature just causes me extra headache and time to go back through and seperate my thoughts for easier reading. I'm gonna do it anyway, but it just about triples the time it takes me, and makes me extra frustrated...

Yes, I'm :ranting: but it's all valid...

That's why I always check my posts before I submit them...

How about giving the users control over it? Most would never bother changing the setting, and hopefully those who do would be somewhat more responsible or careful in their posting. I'm really getting sick of having to wait several minutes between posts in order to make sure that their intended meaning doesn't get screwed up by this ridiculous script.

I agree. It autoposted 2 separate/different posts of mine in hot deals. After autoposting it did not make sense. Thanks.

Exactly. I've stopped answering more than 1 question per thread, just because I don't want my words to be rearranged in some way that makes no sense. I've been here a while, and tend to know the answers to lots of nob questions, but I just can't bring myself to have my answers butchered like that.

Ok, seriously. There have been several things around here tht I'm not particularly fond of, but this is the only that has ever really pissed me off. And it really, really does. This "feature" has got to go.

links to cases where it matters? when replying to a thread i have yet to see where it has made a difference that can't be solved by quoting the poster you're replying

I find automerging annoying and disruptive.

Selma made a vaild agrument in her post on page one. But in most cases, it's nice to have the automerge.

I have found that if you space out your replies (by 2+ minutes), they won't be merged together.
