Hi I recently got into accident in NYC. The other driver is at fault according to the police report but, fled the scene of the accident. The police found the owner of the other car but, the owner said that her car was stolen. It has been 1 week now and I haven't gotten any more information form the police. My insurance company is not going to pay for the damages to my car. The driver who fled the scene was bleeding from the accident according to witnesses. So should I expect the police to do blood test and fingerprints to find the other driver ? I would appreciate it if anyone could give me with advice on what I should do.

Did the other driver report the vehicle as stolen? If not, then their Ins. should be responsible for this claim - whether or not they were or were not the driver - someone else was driving their vehicle - and if they didn't report it as stolen - oh well - shit happens  I'd be calling the other driver's Ins. Co. and placing a claim thru them.

Get a copy of the Police Report, will probably cost you a few bucks, and get the Ins. Info from there - if you do not already have it.

Just so you know, it takes 3-4 weeks in most places to get a police report.

Start saving all reciepts for anything the accident caused you to pay for that you otherwise would not have spent money on. Cabs, car rental, log any time spent on phone (cell minutes are expensive and add up). If you get hurt, Co-pays, asprins, mileage incurred getting to doc. If it gets messy and goes as far as legal action, you get all this back before the blood sucking attorney gets their cut.'

You also have the right to get your car fixed where YOU want it fixed. Don't get talked into anywhere to do their insurance or your insurance favors. I

Same thing happened to my friend last year & she didn't get anything. Are you covered for uninsured motorist?

The owner of the other car reported the car as stolen. I am not covered for uninsured motorist so my insurance company has told me that they will not cover for any of the costs. My Suv was flipped over in the car crash and is not drivable. Don't think it would be worth it to repair my suv since entire body is pretty much ruined.

Okay, since there is No OT listed on this thread - I get to   about you not having any uninsured motorist coverage on your vehicle  This is exactly what it is for - for when some whack job does something like this to you

Scrap it out for parts - and buy yourself another vehicle :whee:
