So if you used the one that expired on 11/27 can you do this again?
I just registered from Amex old email link and it was updated as "12/31" So, this is correct.
I also received email confirmation after my registration.
I think local small pet store accepts Amex. Let's see.

How about AMEX give small businesses a break on there processing fees!?!
I believe they still receive unexpected sales and some profit by this purchase. I would not go to the local pet store and just go to Petsmart if this 'supporting small business' offer.

UMM 99% of the business around me aren't, also small business can vary, a liquor store does lots of sales for example, so could be a medium business !
I ate at a family italian restaurant but they have 3 local branches just in the county and have a bar inside , so that is a concern

Where do you live that you are having trouble thinking of small businesses? I can think of ten within two blocks from me: Southport Lanes, Harmony Grill, Justin's, Schoolyard Tavern, the crappy hair salon on the corner, Four Legs Pet Supply, the liquor store next to the El, and two dozen more within a quarter of a mile.

Seemed to have registered both of my Costco AMEX cards just fine, now to see if it actually works-
You're All Set.

I think the terms are pretty straight-forward: "Eligible merchants include any independently owned small businesses that accept the American Express Card. Purchases made online, at large, national chains, at franchised business locations and at government agencies are not eligible. Prepaid and corporate cards and ExpressPay transactions are not eligible."
Just find a locally-owned restaurant that you like and be done with it.

It is nice they are extending it, though I made sure to do my purchase on small-business day.
The main problem with this promotion is that very few small businesses carry the AMEX card! As RHCCapri eloquently put it - the processing fees are too high!
I don't think so. If you have another amx you can register it though. We used a registered delta amx yesterday, now I'm going to sign up my blue amx and use it. Great deal!!
Since they always know what AmEx cards you have based on your social security number, I think it's safe to predict that they'll see multiple registrations as violating the policy of one $25 rebate per person, not per card.

The link you provided brings you to the facebook page, which does say that the offer has been extended to 12/31/10, but also reads that more than 1M people have already "...joined the movement...". Do you guys think that means that at least 1M people have already registered? Isn't this offer limited to only the first 300,000 registrants?

Just be careful how you use the card for the $25 credit. I suggest you plan ahead if you're going out just to cash in on this deal.
I went out on Saturday specifically to find a small business to spend over $25 and I ended going to a local restaurant for dinner near my friend's place. But it wasn't until AFTER I ate there that my friend told me they have other locations in the area, so I didn't know if it would really qualify as a "small business". So we went to another "small business" establishment and spent over $25 on drinks.

Cool! I told my sis to register for this but she didn't because she was lazy. What a dummy. It got late last night before I realize it was the last day to do the Amex Small Business credit deal; I was going to order take-out Chinese food but then decided to spend it on a higher-end takeout place that I don't normally eat at. The food was excellent and this Amex deal allowed me to try the place out practically free. Now I'll be sure to make my sister register and get more food. :D

Hello, people, most stores in your area that don't start with Target, Best Buy or Petco are probably small businesses! A small business can even have more than one store! It just means not a Corporation type business. Most areas have places that tell you who your small businesses are. Have you tried googling local business for your area? We have Local First Arizona which is a coop of all local business people. How about looking up a Chamber of Commerce? They'll have a listing of small businesses.
Common sense guys! Wow! I make it a point to shop local. We all should be to make sure that money stays in your area to fund schools and improvements.

I went to a small pet store in center conway, NH during my ski trip last weekend and they didn't take amex, went to the next store (bavarian fudge something) even they didn't take it, asked them what's the story and they said amex charges almost twice the fees of visa/mc and none of the small businesses in the area take them.... he said it was funny because was amex supports and sponsors the local small business chapter something...

People complain about AMEX not being clear what qualifies as a Small Business for this promo, but the ambiguity is definitely working in AMEX's favor. I pretty much did the same thing, causing me to spend more on my AMEX at places I normally wouldn't have gone.

You're right. That's why in my case, even-thou i knew my local liquor store didn't have any other locations, I googled them and called ahead. Granted, the owner was a bit puzzeld when I asked on the phone if they were part of a chain, or just a small business but he answered my question nonetheless. And off I went for a literal f*@k ton of beer. LOL.:D

I predict that Amex will be in discussions with every state's consumer protection agency after this deal is over. There is really no clear way that you or me, the buyers, can know if a store is a franchise or if it is a small business. Did anyone note that the terms say "participating merchant".....did anyone know what merchants were part of this program? I explained the program to at least two stores that took Amex.
It's really an incredibly stupid marketing effort. If Amex had any marketing savy, they would have sent info in advance to every store that takes their card...with some big sticker to put on their window advertising that they are participating. The stores could have advertised that they were participating. But, no one at Amex apparently thought of that.....
Oh well...enjoy the $25....we did.

Oh well...enjoy the $25....we did.
if you as an adult cannot determine or dont ask the store manager if it is a chain or an independently owned small biz... then you dont deserve the 25$... its a way for AMEX to help out small biz that need some cash flow...and for them to entice you to spend and they lose money (25bucks minus their % cut they charge to use the card for biz owners) but in reality they dont lose money bc its part of their marketing budget....
so instead of spending that money on some mailers and advertising campaign and stickers which nobody would care about... they put it out there to their customers and make them "look good" in business owners eyes and some customers who say hey they are helping small biz....
like i said local liquor store, local eatery...etc...

I posted this on one of the AMEX $25 off threads so if this is redundant sorry; however, it might help some others... Anyway, I called AMEX about this promotion and expressed my concern for the "local/small business" qualification and the C/S rep said if I purchased something (I did at a liquor store) and thought that it should qualify for the rebate all I would have to do is call and tell AMEX and they would credit my account. To me it appears that there is no way to lose with this... Did I mention I registered two AMEXs... $50 big ones!!! or maybe a couple nice 750ml if you know what I mean...
oh yeah, let the 1st rule people start posting

Just registered but I don't know any small business that accepts AMEX.
there are tons of small businesses that accept amex. Restaurants, Convenience stores, Liquor Stores, bunch of shops/kiosks in the malls etc..
Small businesses aren't as against Amex as you would think. Amex charges 3% usually for transactions. Visa/Mastercard charge about 2%, but if you use any type of rewards card, they add about 1% to that, then if you enter in the card #, they charge you extra, and they charge you $.25/transaction. I pay more for visa/mastercard than I do for Amex after I calculate all the fees. Who doesn't use a rewards card nowadays?

25$ of beer is going to last you till next year??
I didn't Buy $25 worth of beer. I bought $50. I like to have a beer while cooking and sometimes I crack open a second one when food is served, but I don't cook everyday. So sometimes, a 12 pack might last me 10 days, sometimes 2 weeks. So I was already running low, and instead of the 2 12 packs I usually buy (that would be a case), I bought 5 12 packs and it totaled 50 bucks. So the way I see it, I bought $50 worth of the beer I buy every month, but at half price. That should last me way longer than the 4 weeks that separates us from 2011.
Now in my younger days, I would have gone through 2 12 packs in a weekend. But my party days are behind me. Now I'm just a tired guy who after a long days work, enjoys a beer while cooking. (That sounds kind of sad. :) Haha. But I've lived a good life).
Got my credit yesterday with a Costco AMEX card after spending exactly $25 in a local restaurant. :bounce::woot::cool:

Yup, I got mine today actually.
Purchase made at 12/12 at my local diner, which posted on 12/14. $25 credit posted on 12/16 and showed up when I logged in today.
So far, three cards and three credits.
1) Amex Blue
2) Starwood Preferred Guest
3) Fidelity AmEx
Made a purchase with my PenFed AmEx a couple nights ago and hoping that one posts as well.

I'm having no luck on this or my American Express Daily Wish. I just got my credit card statement, and it had my restaurant charge on 11/27, but no $25 credit. it also didn't have credits for two Daily Wish offers I won. Not too happy about this.

Then I guess you thought incorrectly. Might have helped that I used three four different e-mail addresses, but I have a feeling that it might have worked even with the same e-mail address.
got my $25, after 2 days eating at a local japanese restaurant

I signed up both the cards on my single account and have received 2 credits already. I checked with customer service and they told me I can sign up as many cards as I want.
I also signed up my Starwood card but haven't made a purchase yet.

Used different e-mail addresses, but not sure if I had to do that. Just figured it was the best method to get multiple credits.

Do the authorized users have the same card numbers. With the Starwood card it worked which has different card # for each user.

Oh.... I actually have 3 AmEx cards (SPG, Delta, Hilton). Only 2 got approved for the promotion. They seem to limit the number of cards 1 person can register under their own name.

I'm still not sure whether a place is considered a local business or not. If it's got more than 1 location (but technically I wouldn't consider it a chain), would that mean it's NOT a small biz? I went to manta.com, but didn't see too many restaurants listed.
Also, if I register a new card and DON'T get a confirmation email, I'm assuming that means that 300K enrollees has been reached?

Are all the locations local and owned by someone in the same area? Finding a local restaurant should be the easiest type to find.
I never got an email but still received the credit; however, what I purchased was easily returnable if I didn't get a credit within 5 business days.
