View Full Version : How about an optional gender indicator?

I did a search. I didn't find anyone else suggesting this. If I missed it, please join them.
Just a suggestion. Many times, we talk to each other and automatically say "He". I was in discussions with a member I thought was a man for like 4 months. I think it would be nice if we had an optional gender indicator under our usernames or posts. It should only have the options of "M" or "F" and not give someone the option of typing "Yes Please" in the sex indicator.

Don't take this as negativity, but I don't think there is a need for M/F indicators. I'd rather the owner/moderator spend time coding stuff that everyone cares about instead of just adding labels to people. Why does it really matter if I am a girl or a guy?
Just my 2 cents. Not flaming or trying to get anyones dander up. Sorry.

Male or Female is a label?? :shake:
Well, many get offended when you say "he" when it is a she who you are talking to.

Meh, I only come here for the deals. I don't pay any attention to whether people call me he or she.

I say if someone has a problem with being called something their not they should make it obvious (by their name choice) if they're a guy or a girl.
I'm pretty sure I won't be mistaken for a guy anytime soon.

why don't people just put M / F in their custom titles.

why don't people just put M / F in their custom titles.
Because we spend so much time coming up with clever ones, of course.
I think it could be a real help, but it would probably also change the dynamics of a whole lot of conversations. Hard call to make.

What else is there? An H?
What else is there? An H?
Or an O.
Most other forums I've seen with this feature used a male/female symbol.
I'd like to have something like this.

Yes, please add a poll, Mrs. Mavtech! (LOL)
I too think it would be very useful to have this (optionally used) feature. Just use the male symbol for a dude and female symbol for a chick.

22/m/FL and ZOMG HAWT! Lol just kidding.
Honesty, def. a good idea though. So simple, yet effective.
Maybe even include age if you want, under the user name.

I vote yes to gender indicator, although I would hope after over 2 years and a girly screenname people would know I am a girl by now.

They'd have to have 3 options to technically be fair to all groups.
Male
Female
Transgender
P.S. I thought this was a deals site, not match.com ;)

I remember you in the HD forum as Optimus Prime. I stopped posting as much for a bit and then you had changed your name. I had no idea you were the same person until I saw someone quote something really old of yours that still had your old sn in it...and then I was :doh; It's the same person. Kinda blew my mind. Don't know why. Guess it doesn't take much, lol.
Gender button would be cool. When I have on my bearded avatar people think I'm a guy. Really, there's no reason for them to think this :P

I have been mistaken for a guy sometimes as well. I am not sure how I feel about that. Maybe it's because I am such a tough mod!! Yeah, that's it!! That's the ticket! Yes!! I am known and feared throughout the land! Muhahahahaha!!!! **flexes muscles in a moment of delusional happiness**
I think everyone is just overlooking an easy solution: We just need a "Post Your Boobies" thread and all this confusion would go away.
Here's looking at you finzz.

I think it's completely unnecessary - besides it eliminates such classics as "OMG - Appleyum is a dude?!!?"

:bump: TS just brought my attention to this again, and I think it still needs to be implemented. I keep getting confused on who's a man/woman!
Sorry if this screws up your archive system (old thread) but since it's been discussed already, I think it needs to be brought up again, rather than me make a new thread....I don't think there ever was a conclusive answer about this feature/option..
