It's about time! The good news is, Barrowman and Myles are back. The great news is Russell T. Davies is running things. :yahoo:
RTD has said that this series will be very dark. Should be interesting. The new title is Torchwood: Miracle Day. The working title had been Torchwood: The New World. The down side is the show will be shown in the US on Starz instead of BBCA as Starz threw in a bunch of money to make it possible for the series to happen. BBC is under a big budget crunch right now, with everything that's going on in the UK.
Episode one is set to premiere on 1st July 2011 on both BBC One in the UK and Starz in the US.
And the latest news from the show is that there's been a new piece of casting. Alexa Havins and Dichen Lachman are the new additions to the cast, which already includes John Barrowman, Eve Myles and Mekhi Phifer.

Based on the info on DC's link, you don't really have to know anything about Torchwood to watch this new series that is coming out. It sounds like the CIA agent on this new series is going to find out all about Torchwood and that will fill in viewers who have never seen the show. However, it's a fun show to watch and I would recommend it. Netflix has the first three seasons on instant watch.
The overview of the original series:
A spinoff from "Doctor Who," this wild sci-fi series recounts the exploits of the Torchwood Institute, which was initially begun by Queen Victoria as a way to investigate alien life forms and trap the Doctor if he ever returned to Earth. Now led by the mysterious Capt. Jack Harkness (John Barrowman), Torchwood leads the fight against hostile aliens with its crew of ex-policewoman Gwen, brash doctor Owen, computer expert Toshiko and aide Ianto.http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Torchwood/70140458?trkid=2361637#height1608 (http://slickdeals.net/?&u2=http://movies.netflix.com/WiMovie/Torchwood/70140458?trkid=2361637#height1608)
If you don't want to watch the first three seasons, here's the synopsis of the new series:
***warning spoilers below!***
Torchwood begins with a day when nobody dies. All across the world, nobody dies. And then the next day, and the next, and the next, people keep aging, they get hurt and sick, but they never die. The result: a population boom, overnight. With all the extra people, resources are finite. It’s said that in four month’s time, the human race will cease to be viable. But this can’t be a natural event — someone’s got to be behind it. It’s a race against time as C.I.A. agent Rex Matheson (Phifer) investigates a global conspiracy. The answers lie within an old, secret British institute. As Rex keeps asking “What is Torchwood?,” he’s drawn into a world of adventure, and a threat to change what it means to be human, forever.

Interesting. Where can I find seasons 1-3?

I'm not sure I can stick it out for a whole season of "Miracle Day". Episode 1 wasn't that great. Episode 2 was totally boring up til about the last 10 minutes. Really feels like they are stretching a 1 hour episode into a 10 episode season.

I just finished Torchwood Children of Earth and could barely watch it. Davies' "casting changes" left them with a whole lot going on and no real reason to watch. The ending with Jack and Gwen was terrible. So if Miracle Day is just more of the same forget it. :(

After seeing the preview for next week's episode, I've figured it out what caused "miracle day"...

I haven't watched it yet, but I'm guessing the final episode has something to do with Jack having sex with something. The show turned into Cinemax a couple or three times this season. I'm talkin' "where's the fast-forward button," "look at your watch" kind of stuff.

:rofl2: That would have probably have been a better ending. :lmao:
If they do another season, hopefully they won't try a single storyline for the whole run. "Miracle day" should have been a 1 (maybe 2 part) episode story, WAY too much filler. Those Skinemax moments really were out of place, we're trying to save the world, but we got time to get our freak on. :nono:

I liked the final episode. Not sure I understand the comment.

When they did season 3 (Children of Earth) in 2009 it was one story line over five episodes, which was a good fit. My guess is RTD had the same sort of plot line in mind for Miracle Day but then the BBC decided to drop Torchwood so when Starz picked it up, they probably wanted a longer series and had RTD stretch it into 10 episodes.

For one thing, the previous episodes dragged so much and then it seemed rushed at the end to wrap it up. And: All throughout the season they've insisted that Jack's blood has nothing to do with it and based on how he became immortal, that's true. Then at the end it turns out, oh it really is Jack's blood. I'd much rather it was 100% pure alien technology and Jack really had nothing to do with it. How crazy was the idea of transfusing Jack's blood into Rex and in the end he's immortal too.
To be totally honest, I'm probably just getting a bit bored with the show in general. I liked seasons 1&2, but started losing interest when they basically killed off half the cast.
