When someone post a url example: http://www.google.com have it converted to:
http://www.google.com
The user will have to copy and paste, but the site won't be able to see who is linking this way.

That's what FW does. I don't think it makes a large difference, though. Plus, it's an inconvenience.

A prime example of what this may have helped on was the free WinRAR licence. They may have believed that it was the loyal users that knew when they were offering this, not the general public.
I know SD likes to track every site link on the forum, so this may not be implemented.

The site got hammered and winrar took the download away, which would have happened anyway. Clicking on the link and copying and pasting it in your browser is inconsequential to site traffic.
Slickdeals makes money by people clicking on the links and unless you have a better fiduciary offer, I doubt there will be a change.
