View Full Version : Spawn OT Thread Feature (more OT nonsense)

I posted this in the "OT" thread in the lounge, and I think it's actually a pretty good idea if it can be done, so here it is again in a place that might get noticed:

OT posts are what make the lounge great!! how can you try to do away with them? I mean think about it, this is "the lounge". I've only been here a while, but it honestly does feel like a lounge, where people are in small groups having discussions, and a whole bunch of other people kind of meander around, overhearing conversations, and when they hear something interesting, they jump in and join the conversation. Every now and then some Norm guy will walk into the room and announce something like "my hamster this" or "celery that" and everybody will be like "NORM!!!" and the conversations continue.

we can't do away with that, or it won't be a lounge, it will be the Periodicals room in the library, and only old fogies (no offense ) will go and the lounge will be boring and dead

I have a better idea: sometimes off topic posts spawn generally interesting discussions, why don't you add a feature for "Spawn OT thread" where you can immediately create a new thread (with a link back to it's origin in the OP) and the ot discussion can continue there?

I don't think anyone is proposing we never go off topic.

I think the "No OT" is for a couple of posts here or there where the OP needs help or whatever. It isn't like every thread is going to be "no OT"

Its purpose is to preserve the fun of the lounge and the flow of conversation while making sure people also get the the help they need, or question answered, etc.

I would imagine there could be many many "spawns" just from one thread....and it might crowd up the lounge.

There already is a "spawn OT thread feature:"

:iagree:

seems like all you really add is just the link to the original thread. i'm more in favor of the no ot in the rare thread that's meant to be serious.

:iagree: it does seem the cleanest solution to peoples complaints.

yeah but sometimes (a lot of times actually) OT posts can lead to pretty interesting discussions, and it would be cool to automate the process, so that a post would be created in the OP linking to the new OT thread, and the new OT would have a link to the OP.

Anyone can make a new thread and put a link in the OP of the thread they are referring to.

its the lounge, I see an 'seri'ol responses only' thread as a chance to threadjack.
