Can I use this ram for my system?
Processor
Core2 Quad 8200 (Not overclocked)
This motherboard (G41 chipset, takes DDR3)
http://www.frys.com/product/6486142?site=sr:SEARCH:MAIN_RSLT_PG
The reason I ask is because I don't understand the ram voltage and timing.
I understand my processor's 1333mhz FSB limits the ram speed but can I use
this for my system? Wanted to get it since it's nice and cheap for 8GB ram.

This exact RAM isn't on Gigabyte's approved memory list. But other G.Skill memory models at 1.5v and tighter timings are. So I think you would be safe using this with your motherboard.

totally dependant upon your primary use. you dont just add your ram to see improvements and the lower voltage mean nothing for your case. however system improvement from ram goes size > freq > CAS latency
assuming by the fact you're even asking this question, i doubt you will need more than 4gb of ram

Are you using an x58 platform? If you buy 2 sets you can use all 16GB in a dual channel setup, but some might argue you'd get better performance with 12GB triple channel. But maybe you already knew that...hmmm, screw it, buy 3 and max out your mobo, no sense buying 2 kits to let an extra stick go to waste.

I just bought 1600 DDR3 from the last slickdeal but then decided to go with an AM3 mobo and AMD CPU. The motherboard is an Asus M4A79XTD EVO which supports up to 1800+ and the CPU I will be getting (as soon as I find a deal) will be the Phenom II 555 (most likely). I'm assuming that the memory will run happily at 1333 unless I adjust the bios as described here - http://www.gskill.us/forum/showthread.php?t=7688 The procedure described in post 1 will also overclock the CPU a bit (not sure how much) which is cool with me.
My question is... can you elaborate on how negligible the difference between 1333 and 1600 is? And how easy is it to fry your memory or create a ton of instability issues once you try and unlock the full 1600 from the memory? I'm not a hard core gamer or do much video encoding but I want to get a lot out of the components I have without stressing the system to the absolute max (I want it to last). Thanks.

Removable, but only if you don't mind voiding your warranty and the slight risk of borking it all up if you aren't carefull with undoing the thermal adhesive pads. I wouldn't suggest doing it unless you were desperate.

RAM gets very hot. I've never touched the RAM inside my case during heat (for obvious reasons), but the DDR2 in my laptop gets super hot. and it's not the heat from the processor, it's the ram chips themselves. They run stably even when hot, but I can see why heatsinks are nice to have.

Pretty dang negligible. If you want the best benchmark scores in your neighborhood, and pride yourself on such things, then you care. But will you notice in real world programs, I don't think so. They say that 1333 *MAY* hold you back if you are trying a huge overclock...but overclocking the cpu a bit, 1333 vs 1600 wont be noticeable, from what i have read and my experience

It really depends what you will be doing. 8gb is plenty for the average user. Ask yourself:
-Am I opening any Huge files for editing (bunch of Hi Res pictures or HD video)?
-Do I want to multi-task to my hearts content? (like really really really multitask)
-Have I ever ran out of available memory (or even gotten close)?
Yes they will play nicely together, but will you use it. If you are the type that sleeps/hybernates your computer and restarts/shut down maybe once a month, or does any of the the things above, then sure, for $50, it couldn't hurt :) those are my thoughts

I'm complaining that RAM hasn't gotten any better... if you already have 4 GB of high quality RAM, your average user will suffer a performance hit if they added this stuff to their system.

My personal experience is that the "performance hit" for using 1333 CL9 compared to similarly spec'd kits that use faster timings and/or higher rated speeds is overblown.
For most, I believe the additional RAM outweighs most of the disadvantages of running lower-spec'd memory.
If you enjoy running synthetic benchmarks over anything else, then you shouldn't be buying these. However, if you like the benefit of having more RAM, this is a great deal at $60 especially for 4GB density sticks (8gb kit in this case).

the performance hit will be small, latency doesn't matter much in current computers. If you don't have a need for more than 4GB of ram, why bother complaining? Maybe there are some situations in where you can use a ram drive and get a big boost.

My current HTPC runs 4 GB of this ram:http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231275&cm_re=ripjaqs-_-20-231-275-_-Product
I'm building a server and need another 4 GB of ram, but I saw this deal today, 8GB for $50 after NEWCUSTOMER10 coupon. My question is can I take 1 4GB stick for my new server (running on a p8H67-M LE board), and add the other stick to my HTPC (which already has 4 GB of the above linked memory).
Will this pose any problems on either end (running a computer with only 1 stick of memory, and then running one computer with 2 matching 2GB sticks and a 3rd 4GB stick for 8GB total)?
Is it even worth it? I also have a gaming PC with 8GB of 1833 SNIPER RAM, could I add one of these extra red 4GB sticks to that? Is there a rule with matching ram speeds or brands...?

I'm in a similar position as you are. I have a q6600, GA-EP45-UD3L, and 4x2GB Kingston DDR2-1066. I chose to unload the old quad core while q6600 is still a pretty hot commodity.
I picked this GSKILL memory up, then sprung for an open box ASUS P8P67 pro for 108. I'm lucky enough to have a microcenter close by, so I will pick up a 2500k for about 195 after tax. That will total about 360 for the upgrade.
My old setup is a proven 3.5 GHz daily driver. I figure I can probably sell the 775 motherboard, q6600 and 8GB ram combo for about 225 bucks and recoup most of the cost.
