Just curious how much bandwidth people use to download each month.

Around 200gb. With TWC it was around 400-500gb. Stupid Comcast and their 250gb a month cap. Already went over it once. One more time and I can't have service with them for 6 months.

I think 780 is my record, and the average is 2-300.

How do you guys meter your usage?

i typically hit 90GB per month now. and that's with two people constantly using Hulu and Netflix on a daily basis.

we used to hit around 150GB per month when everything was torrented, but it saves a lot of (overall) bandwidth if you're just streaming and not sharing.

we measure our usage with a DD-WRT router. lets you track a lot of things, among which is daily and monthly total bandwidth charts.

there is also a network monitor gadget you can get for win 7. i use that.

i have to agree with other people. since i've started using hulu/netflix for tv my dl have dropped. i used to dl 2+gb a week in tv crap and normally 1 movie a week.

If I had to guess I would say 25-50GB.

I don't have Netflix nor do I use Hulu that much. I would love to Torrent more than I am now, but my 3 meg down DSL connection sucks all the fun out of it. :(

According to my router stats..fluctuates a bit here and there..but roughly anywhere from 140GB-205GB. For this year March was the highest with January being the lowest looking at around >100GB.

Usage doubled in February and has stayed pretty consistent throughout since then..I think this is when I added more NetFlix devices to for the family.

Could definitely be using more since I haven't set up any auto torrrent or download schedules..yet.

I'd say 250GB on average. Probably have gone much higher than that before.

Probably less than 100gb.

Oh don't get me wrong, I've probably downloaded 4-5 times that in a day before. I just haven't in the last several weeks.

If you have comcast you can sign into your account and there is a bandwidth usage tool you can check.

Just checked mine. 347GB in April! I don't even know what I did in april to make it that high.

I just downloaded about 13 games on Steam after reisntalling Windows 7 and haven't even hit 100GB yet. I'm clueless as to what made me hit 347GB. I used 210GB in May but then only 95GB n June.

Not sure if my parent's got a warning or a call about exceeding the limit since they say going over twice in 6 months may terminate our service.

You don't need to pirate to rack up big gigs. Start streaming video of some kind and it can add up quick.

yeah, streaming from Netflix via a Wii (so in SD, no HD on the Wii) will net you about 1.5-2GB per hour of streaming.

going to the HD streams (via computer, Xbox360, PS3, etc.) it's somewhere around 4-7GB per hour.

so it's rather easy to see how a home with two streams of Netflix running a lot, plus all the other stuff that people use internet for (gaming, music, shopping, remote desktop, etc.)

just a note: those numbers are what i see being pulled on my connection when using Netflix; they might vary for others. also, i think in Canada Netflix allows you to set your video resolution so you don't go over your bandwidth caps (in some cases they're much more restrictive than the 250GB per month on Comcast).

Thats how mine gets high. We've got netflix streaming often with 3 xboxes and a bunch is in HD. Also we do a lot of gaming, downloading shows we missed, or anime fansubs.

according to clear, there is no cap on how much i use. however the bottleneck is the dl speed itself, as i get around 8 - 10 Mbit download speed when i do a speed test and rarely over 1 Mbit upload.
my service also hates thunderstorms, the speed goes down during them, i guess cause of all the extra electricity in the air. or something.

though it wouldn't surprise me to find out that a tower got hit, crazy amounts of lightning 2 nights ago.

I used 68gb last month. That was 2-3 games and 10 hours or so of netflix. I feel like I am not getting what I paid for with comcast....

You may not get any warning, I had TW at an old apartment and they shut off our internet 2 days after it got hooked up because we went over the limit and they never emailed, called or anything.

It was a new account and went over the limit in 2 days? Umm yeah.. that's called a red flag.

Probably a bit different for people who've had the service for years...

Check your torrent settings

I had a roommate who never stopped his torrent he downloaded on christmas....5 months later I checked my router and literally had a heart attack seeing we used like 200gb that month!!!!

Each month was around that area.

After realizing it was all outgoing (I admit, he probably only uploaded like 50-70gb a month...the rest of that 200 was mines!) I checked his laptop and yep....90kb upload speed for that torrent!

I almost threw him out the window! All the days we had laggy connections....probably because he was feeding the net w/some anime crap off a public tracker!!! (if you're going to accidentally do it...at least do it on a private tracker so the user name can look like it loves sharing!)

Check your torrent settings

Who even said I torrent? Okay I do, but I never leave it on, once a download finishes I exit the program.

I think i can account the high download to netflix usage. I watched the entire series and movies of Battlestar Galactica in about 2 weeks in April. That combined with gaming, downloading games, watching other movies on netflix, and whatnot would probably equate to the usage.

I'd gladly pay for the next tier up if it meant no caps.

My average is around 300GB. I have gone upto 800GB a couple of times(full BD images). Luckily I am on an unmetered connection, so havent had any run-ins with my ISP yet.

Some of you guys download such an insane amount ><

My router shows 60GB in the past 30 days. Ive been snagging a bunch of TV shows though lately so thats over normal usage. I think the max I have hit in a month is around 200GB but that was far out of the ordinary and back when I was using an FTP Drop box between some friends and I for file transfer.

Same boat, I accidently went over by about 10GB, got a call from their tech and now I have to be very careful and stay under 200GB / month. Can't wait for FIOS to come to my neighborhood

Don't know how to check for my home use, but on my phone I have used 5.72 gb so far (end of period is the 19th). Lots of netflix and pandora/google music. Thankfully I am grandfathered into Verizon Unlimited Data.
