This may have already been requested, but I would like to see a "Review Request" forum where you can start a thread on a given item and have other slickdealers review that item.

For instance, I am in the market for an 802.11G wireless router, and have my eye on a D-Link DI-524 at Buy.com for $30. I would love to be able to post a thread with specific criteria and let people weigh in on their experiences with this specific router. (In this case I would prohibit critique of D-Link in general, only ratings on this specific router)

I find there are numerous sites out there that have this capability, but people only tend to review something when they are really negative or really positive about something. I think we could get a broader spectrum of reviews here, and the community is clearly more technical than what you would find at Amazon.com.

Finally, I think this new forum would fit in nicely with the natural progression of things at slickdeals. You can request a review, and if it sounds positive, request "help me find a deal" on it or wait for it in hot deals.

I was thinking of nearly the same thing.
What if it was "Product Reviews" in general, both to accommodate requests (appropriately denoted somehow in thread title) and simple passive reviews from people who just got something and want to relay their experience.

Also not just limited to technical things. It can include all products and services, although it should be somewhat specific in focus. For example, I just got a new swamp cooler (poor man's A/C alternative) which didn't have a ton of info about on the web. I know that there were others out there that were looking for something like this. I could use the new Review section to provide practical first-hand experience to anyone who might be looking.

If the brand/model is clearly listed in the thread title, we could use the Polling feature to give the product some sort of "star rating". Someone doing a search could instantly see how it rates among slickdealers. And again, this could apply to both a request and a straight review.

I also think it would fit nicely in the "Everything Else" section of the forums. And let's face it, people like to talk about their "new stuff". This would give them a place to rant or rave.

Something to think about.
