i searched for the "build your own amd/intel" thread but i couldn't find it. so i'm sorry if it's right in front of my nose haha.

anyway, i'm looking to build a decent gaming rig. nothing too fancy but something that would be upgradeable in a year or two.

i don't have a preference in brand,
i dont mind waiting for parts or going to a local microcenter,
looking to spend about 450,
i don't need a mouse or anything extra,

thanks in advance.

damnyou, that's a pretty garbage build IMO. 1x4GB stick = single channel. The 965 probably isn't worth the extra money from the 840, and the 6770 isn't really a gaming card. Additionally, the PSU doesn't even meet AMD's requirements for that card.

OP: I'd consider bumping your budget a little bit and go with this--

CPU/board (MSI 880G-E45 + AMD Phenom II X4 840) $118:

PSU (Antec 750W Gamer Series) $55:

Memory (4GB ADATA DDR3 1600) $43:

Video card (Sapphire Radeon HD 6850) $138:

Optical drive (ASUS DVD burner) $20:

Hard drive (Samsung Spinpoint F3 1TB) $51:

Case (Rosewill Challenger) $50:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811147153

Total price is $475 after rebate(s) and the two Superbiiz items are dependent on a 15% off code that expires tonight at midnight Pacific time.

In my opinion, for an additional $45 over damnyou's, you get something MUCH more powerful and additionally upgradeable.
