JC Penney Online Scam!! Watch Out!!

Can't believe what JC Penney is doing with their online store!! I went to purchase bolster covers today and they showed up as being $19.99 for a pair. Then they showed suggestions of matching items, one of which was a day bed cover for $49.00. I opened a new tab to search for other styles that might work and I couldn't believe it, but the same ones that they suggested under my first selection were in the new tab for $39.00.

I tried it again and it appears that it will cost you $10.00 more for them to suggest a matching item to purchase instead of you doing the search yourself!

Here are the items I went to purchase so you can see what I am talking about.

Start with the Bolster Covers and they will come up as $19.99, then look below for their matching suggestions for the daybed cover, and then do a search, even in the same window for Daybed Cover and watch the price of it drop!

This is not a scam. JCPenney still has physical catalog books. With multiple catalogs, items will have different prices depending on the catalog and time of year it was. Since they have to leave the ability for people to use past catalog books to order items, you will see different prices.

722-0545 is the # that refers to the item itself. The 2 letters in front that is what determines the catalog it came from and hence the price of the item.

The cheaper price has the catalog identifier RP
The more expensive version is fro a different catalog RN where the price is more.

Search RP722-0545 in JCP search box, then search RN722-0545

you will see the two different prices, each of which can be ordered.

I see what you are saying, but doing the shopping either way, the first item you look at is at the lower price, and the suggested item which matches the set is at the higher price. So, if I went to look at the daybed cover first, it shows up as a $39 item and the suggested bolster covers below are at $29.00. If you are talking about RN and RP, it appears that they will show you the lower priced item first when you search for it and the higher priced item suggested below it. If I did not go back and do a separate search and just bought the other item I wanted, I would have paid an additional $10.

Also, I did not search by catalog #'s, I did a description search, so they are choosing the catalog to display first then.

Yes it is on clearance now which is the lower price you see. The suggested item is just a calculation based on the item you are viewing and since the older higher price catalog of that same item was left in the system, it comes up as a matching suggested item with the older higher price.

Just a glitch in the suggested item calculation, but nothing they are purposely trying to screw people
