Im involved with planning a party, and the venue we are having the party at has monitors throughout the room.
Usually the people book DJs who take pictures throughout the night and either display the photos on the monitors during the night, or they play a photo montage at the end of the night.

They are not choosing this option with the DJ, but would like to me to set up the montage.

Anyone have any idea how to do this?

I assume the monitors are connected to a computer, and its just some kind of dvd software that plays a dvd.

I assume it is safer to have it as dvd format, rather than a avi/wmv/video file that is burned (as a data file) onto a dvd.

I know CVS has Photo DVDs. Which plays about 60 photos set to a song.
So thats 60 photos over about 3 minutes (the length of the song)
We are planning on putting about 200 photos set to...10-15 minutes. (no music)

I have Windows XP.
Any ideas on how to do this with just stock software (that came with XP or freeware)?

Thanks

Interesting....

just tried this on my computer.

2 potential problems:
1. The folder has to be a "Picture" folder. I had to go into "Customize this folder" and change it to Picture.
Not sure if I will have access to this process at the venue.

2. Not sure if they are running XP. But I assume it will work on any format.

So my plan now is....burn all the photos onto a CD (saves me a dvd!) and then put the CD into the computer (I HOPE its a computer and not a dvd player!) and change the folder and then play the slideshow.

My tip to you is don't assume the setup. Check out the Venue and confirm it. At the bare minimum, call the place to find out how it's setup.

I've seen too many people make this mistake. People think one way, bring in a disc or flash drive and expect things to work out, only to fail completely, waste everyone's time, and nothing ever gets displayed.

Setups can vary greatly from venue to venue (I'm a part time event photographer). I've rarely seen a venue provide their customers with a laptop to play whatever they want.

Customers usually have to bring their own play back equipment in. Depending on how old or new, you may be using VGA connectors, Good o Composite, or HDMI at the newly renovated areas. Some places MAY be able to supply you a DVD player when asked politely, but even then, they won't guarantee it performance (skipping videos, etc).

Also don't expect the Venue to have all the cables you need to hook up (extension cords, video cables, etc.)

After you figure out how it's setup and what equipment you need, then start planning how to display your slideshow.

Good point!
I called them, and asked.
The guy did not sound very sure, but he said it was a blueray player, and it can play dvds.

So the XP slideshow function would not work. (too bad, I liked it)

So if it is a dvd player, How do I create a dvd photo montage?

Thanks
