The 1gb version (non-reference) of the 6950 card. Good if you don't plan on playing at high resolutions (higher than 1080p). Better than a 6870 for about the same price.

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B004LXBG9G

Lowest on google is $244+

For people who got this HD6950 last time, how is the quality and speed?

using it now and i havent overclocked or anything.. but running everything pretty well.
the card isnt enclosed in a plastic box like a lot of HD69XX are which is good. more ventilation =D

Starcraft 2 - Ultra high settings @ 100 fps.. drops to 30 only when theres HUGE battles.

i would recommend it at $170 especially because it has no rebate.

Starcraft2 relies on your CPU when big battles happens.

Wish I knew if the HD 7000 series was going to be significantly better. Of course, we can ask that about any piece of technology released more than a week ago.

As somebody running an Nvidia 8800GT (albeit significantly overclocked...), I could sure go for a new graphics card soon.

I think it is usually safe to assume that the mid-range of the next generation will be around equal to current high end and the new high end will be 30% - 40% more powerful. Considering little time has been given to the process of switching to 28 nm, I feel like it might just be a die shrink. Then again Nvidia isn't rumored to have any issues even though they roadmapped a change in GPU architectures.

Both cards will probably be released the same time delayed or what not and aiming for Holiday 2011 season.

Newegg version is dual fan design, this seems to be the dual fan as well from the blurred graphic.

Was $180 in May.

This is dual fan.

Why does the 6950 retail for so much more than the 6870?? The 6950 is usually does not do more than 10 fps at the higher resolutions

This seems like a decent deal but I am still waiting for a GTX 480 or 570 to hit the ~$200 mark. I don't want one of these 'tween cards where new and forthcoming DX 11 games are going to perform rather poorly, but I can't yet afford the current mid-range cards... The waiting game begins...

LA craigslist had EVGA GTX 570 $175! It sold before I got it, but man, when you said 570 it reminded of that and I was so sad I missed it, especially since I periodically search gtx under computers at least twice a day on cl. Thought I'd share.

Now my buddy won't complain about BF3!

Just a die shrink is huge. Considering 6series was 40nm and 7series will be 28nm, then I get a feeling that the next generation of 28nm cards are going to blow the doors off of the 6series.

You should try monitoring the Newegg open box gpu section. There have been a lot of GTX570's for that price in the past.

I got in on this for $180 in May to replace my stock 4870 512mb. It was a noticeable upgrade and the fans are much quieter than the 4870's single fan. No more initial hair dryer blow noise when the PC boots up. Stays cool during load as well.

I have the same card, 4870 and it does sound like a hair dryer especially at full load. lately i've been getting green dots on my desktop and video playback (except when playing games). looks like its days are numbered.

at the very least have you cleaned the dust from the gpu heatsink? it may be overheating when the fan isnt spinning up during low usage. I also read that it may be a loose dvi cable connection.

totally possible as I haven't cleaned the inside the case in over 8 months, I don't doubt there is dust caked on the fans. but what caused this green dot problem to occur in the first place was a power outage while I was gaming. immediately after getting the power back on, I was watching a video when the dots started to appear.

the power surge must have affected the card. Do use/buy a surge protector (not just an electrical strip) if you havent already before getting another expensive card. still, i would do the dust cleanup to see if it helps with the green dot artifacts.

I have the pc on a surge protector. time to clean up the dust to see if that helps.
