There are hot deals. Those can become slick deals. Now there should be another category. SICK DEALS! They will make the front page and be in a different color and bolded, italicized, etc.

Top deals (http://slickdeals.net/category/topdeals/) are bolded when listed on the front page. In the original color scheme IIRC they are in red as well, that may not apply to new layout.
