Maybe I am just blind, but I have been trying today to just use the beta. I can't do it for more than 10 minutes. It makes my eyes hurt. I like the way it looks, but I am finding myself skimming stuff and leaving after only a few minutes. I tried to think about why, and realize, I have to focus really hard to read it. It's giving me a headache. There's just too much blue, and font appears smaller, and it all just blurs together after awhile. There needs to be more contrast for me to read it easily.

Which theme are you using? Many found remorse in Classic (http://beta.slickdeals.net/?styleid=16) theme instead of the Beta2/Hybrid (http://beta.slickdeals.net/?styleid=14) or Ice (http://beta.slickdeals.net/?styleid=15), until a dark theme is ready.
Also, I found that monitor settings really make a difference. On my laptop I have to take contrast and gamma down by about 20%, to make colors look similar to the way they look on my Dell LCD.

:iagree: The font does seem smaller. May just be an illusion of the way everything plays together on a page?

Ah, the classic is better. I notice the problem on both my laptop and desktop, but much more so on my laptop.

Even with the classic...or any of the newer formats I can only handle it for a few minutes...it just really bothers my eyes.

I keep wondering what can be so bothersome between the original theme and the new Beta "Classic" theme. In essence, the "Classic" theme replicates the original in terms of color, and uses different spacing, font size and icons, but aside from that it should be identical in terms of eye strain.
I made an image (see attachment) which compares the the two based on this thread (last 3 posts before mine) to show you that really there is hardly any difference. Does it really look that bad to you in comparison? :).
