Good news is that we're considering getting a dog.
Bad news is the dog won't be a "real" dog...it'll probably weigh about the same as our cat.
We're thinking about a Japanese Chin. Looked for rescue dogs, but haven't found any yet. The red & white coloring looks like this:

You should go see a DR asap!!!1Why are you posting here first?!?!?! Those can cause a lot of itching and scratching. Your DR should prescribe you some steroids to help counter balance the girly dog syndrome. XD

Will it help if I call it our daughter's dog?
On a more serious note, we are making our daughter sign a contract, listing her responsibilities relating to the dog. She's even going to have to pay for part of the cost, from her savings plus some of her allowance each week.

That is not a dog. It is a furry little thumb drive. And the only thing that gets stored on it are yips. Thousands and thousands of little yips. Annoying little yips. And all of those thousands of annoying little yips are just waiting to escape in violent little outbursts that are designed to drive real men absolutely nuts.

They confiscated 300 puppies from a breeder in Gaston county, then farmed them out to several shelter all over western NC. Get one of them.

There are some rescues available in Ohio, Punnsylania, Georgia and Florida. You did want to take a vacation, right?

If you're not dead set on a Jap. Chin amazing small breeds can be found at the shelters right now. Late Summer/Early Fall is killer on animal intake. Local shelter here is taking in 600 animals a month :(
I found this little cutie at mine a couple weeks ago and just had to bring her home. She's a shih tzu mix and shouldn't get over 15lbs http://i.imgur.com/yoDlJ.png
