[FIXED] Tag search marking threads as read.

When I search using tags it causes all the threads in that forum to be marked as read.
Is this the desired behavior?

BTW, it's doing it in the lounge, but not in Hot Deals. Haven't tried the others.

Still doing this.

Steps I'm taking to recreate the problem.
1. Choose any thread in the lounge.
2. Click on any tag other than one automatically created by icon (chat, cool, photo, etc..)
3. You'll see a list of matching threads
4. Go back to the lounge and all threads have been marked as read.

Using FF 3.0 (previously 2.7?)

yea the marked as read feature never works too well for me either. I think you are talking about the bold titles, correct? Sometimes all the titles go bold and when I refresh they all are marked as read. Slight problem but it is annoying.

OK, I was finally able to track down exactly when this is happening. When you search for a tag and all the threads that come up that you have previously "read" (none bolded) it will mark that sub-forum as read. It will not do this if any of the threads on the tag sort are unread.

I was able to reproduce this in the gamers lounge and hot deals.

Steps.
1. Go to hot deals.
2. Scroll down to tag search. Search for "asdf"

It should give you the message "There are no posts in this forum.", and when you go back to hot deals, all the threads are marked as read.

Is the sticky in HD showing up as read when you search for the tag? It needs to be read in order to replicate it.

The stickied August birthdays thread isn't marked as read.
It seems to mark the subforum as read when the threads in the search have already been read, and tag searches will show stickies unless they've been ignored.

Try again after hiding (or reading) that thread. Or try the links I posted in #17.

I played around yesterday before I left for work, and was able to recreate the problem in every forum that uses tags. I was able to pin down when it does and when it doesn't do it.

I'm starting to wonder if the mod interface is interfering with the bug, which is why none of them are able to recreate it.

Here's what I know so far:
-Everything that shows up in the tag search must be read already (in Freebies, the Free Magazine forum must be marked as read in order for it to happen in Freebies), all stickies that show up must be hidden or read.
-If any thread on the search is unread, the forum does not get marked as read.
-Does this with user generated, system generated (though possibly not for icons), and manual searches.
-Recreated for me on a Vista box with FF 3.0, FF2, IE; XP box with FF2.
-Was able to recreate it after logging out and using guest account.

That this thread went from :( 2 years ago to :sadwalk: now.

Yes I realize the *.PDF didn't come out just exact -- but you can clearly see that the threads are being marked as read after you try searching by tag.

1. Go to the Lounge as Normal (Note in the *.PDF attachment there are two threads that are not stickied and not read -- those are in bold)

2. added the tag "internet" to this thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=204770&t=892245) that was just started in the Lounge

3. Clicked on the tag "internet" in that thread (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=204770&t=892245) -- it came up with

4.Clicked forums on the blue bar up top and then lounge.

Note the two threads that were bold in step 1 (see the *.PDF attachments for step 4) are now no longer bold (thus marked read). Also, the "Go to first new post" icon (the paper looking icon with 3 horizontal lines to the right of the "+" icon) has now disappeared from those 2 threads also! :sadwalk:

So, I was able to duplicate DNC's problem. :sadwalk:

Also to add -- That doing the similar thing in both the Drugstore and Grocery subforum (http://forums.slickdeals.net/forumdisplay.php?f=38) and Gamer's Lounge subforum (http://forums.slickdeals.net/forumdisplay.php?f=36) does NOT cause this problem to occur.

Make it so that your stickies have no unread posts, then try again.

If any unread threads show up (should only be any stickied threads), manually mark them as read, then revisit the above link. Voila, HD marked as read.

The first link uses icon (category), this one (http://slickdeals.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?sduid=1709&&sort=threadstarted&order=desc&daysprune=30&tagid=7&forumid=9) uses tags with the same result.
