Nobody passed any major milestones this week. :(
I do, however, offer my congratulations to grizli for passing me and moving into 4th place on the SD team.
Congrats right back at you :D You took it back :)

It's hard to keep it going... I already had to shut down 3 machines. Avg will drop a little. Electric bills were.... crazy :) Unfortunately, I ran a lot of old equipment. Maybe I should ask SD for awesome folding rig and I'll provide the power and space lol :D Didn't eVGA use to do that or something?

Alright folks. Looking for some help here. I posted here a few months ago that that f@h software kept shutting down. There was some sort of a problem with .net framework. Someone suggested I uninstall .net and re-install it. I removed all .net software. Then went to the .net website and downloaded v.4. Still had the same problems, so I stopped folding.
Decided a few days ago to give it another try. I was able to fold for maybe 48 hours. Then the same problems again.
I copied the log this time and will post below. Am hoping someone can offer a fix.
Here is the crash log:

Yes. I have the AMD OverDrive program installed. I am using it to overclock the CPU. I think factory setting for this chip is 3.4Ghz. I am running it at 3.8Ghz.

They have legacy code for dual core CPUs in their optimizer, which gets referenced, though never called, hence it conflicts with FaH's core. Don't ask me where I read that, but I remember this has been a problem for years since dual core Athlons came out.

It's officially cold here, which means I can switch machines back on! Also, we had a machine with a w3690 sitting around, so I've added some 6-core goodness to the pack. It still breaks my brainbits that this machine won't get the new bigadv.

It's not extremeoverclocking, it's the Stanford stats server. Check it out here: http://foldingforum.org/viewtopic.php?f=18&t=20214
I'm just hoping that the WUs are still being collected and credited correctly.

Sadly I am going to have to shut down F@H on my home machine for a while. I will probably get it running on one of my PCs at work sometime, but my home machine needs some rest.
I did grind it out and make it to the 3m mark though (a small personal goal I set).
Good job everyone and keep up the fold! Look forward to returning.

So I just did an upgrade, and was wondering if anyone had tried this before. I've done some google searches but it's pretty scattered info. My new video card is an AMD HD 6850. My old card is a Nvidia 9600gso. Is it possible to have both installed, run games and such on the 6850 without any issues, but then use both for Folding when the computer is idle? Looking around it seems ATI cards still suck for folding, so the GSO might give a little boost.
Raven1245
02-14-2012, 10:26 PM
Followup: I threw in the 9600 GSO. Installed Nvidia drivers. Windows recognized both, benchmarks on 6850 was still the same. I open up the v7 F@H client, set up the two GPUs. The Nvidia runs fine, but the ATI isn't running at all. I messed around with some of the advanced settings with CUDA and Opencl flags, but never get it to run at the same time. I during it I got some display errors so I just pulled the Nvidia. Oh well.

So, another issue. Using the new v7 client. When I run SMP it runs fine (TPF about 2 min 20 sec on this current project) by itself, GPU runs fine by itself. When I run them at the same time, the GPU runs at normal speed and SMP basically stops. Still running but it got about 2% in an hour. I tried changing the environmental variables (BROOK_YIELD, FLUSH_INTERVAL, etc), with no avail. I've been looking around for any other solutions but haven't found anything. Anyone else have a problem like this and find a solution?

Raven: its usually because the GPU client needs one cpu core for itself. Do you have SMP set to run on all six cores? I don't run a CPU/GPU setup so I dont know if you can run smp -5 and leave one core for the gpu or if you have to do it in multiples of 2.

I'll have to try that out when I get home. From what I remember seeing I think it has to be multiples of 2. If it runs better bumping it down to 4 cores I'll have to see how much that drops the "PPD" (since I've heard the v7 PPD in the client isn't the most accurate). Kind of sad how slow the ATI cards are these days. My SMP client can put out around 9-11k/day and the HD 6850 can only put out around 6k. My 4 year old NVIDIA card was putting out 4.5k!

So, even though it says multiples of 2, it can go for 5 cores (It doesnt leave a core open. It just runs at around 80%). Fired up the GPU slot and the cpu kept going! Dropped it by about 2.5k PPD on the WU I was testing it on, but the GPU 6k makes up for it.

So I finally figured out my problem. The over clock on my PC was causing the instability with f@h software. I was running my Phenom x6 3.4Ghz chip at 3.81Ghz and it was crashing the folding software. Have been running it at 3.71Ghz for a week now and managed to produce 75k in points for the last week.
Now if I can just get a 2nd machine online, I can get back to 100k a week. See you at the top!
Oh, and I did just pass the 2M mark today.

Well, after finally getting my main rig back up and running, it sparked my interest in folding again. I found a bunch of spare parts and put together an x3 rig. Based on early estimates, looks like it will produce
4k - 5k PPD. Not a ton of points, but that should be enough to get my weekly total around
110K - 120K a week between the 2 machines. It's gonna be a warm summer.
