View Full Version : Bumping Threads

Is there a limit to the amount of times that a thread can be bumped? There are a couple of threads that are bumped repeatly through out the day by the same one or two people. I guess they are trying to keep them at the top of the forum. It seems to me that the threads would have been made a sticky if the mods wanted it to stay at the top of the forum all the time.

If there isn't a reason for it (besides getting a post to the top of the page), please mod alert it. I see it often in freebies. If no one replies, the OP "bumps" the thread in order to seek replies and/or rep points. It usually stops when a Mod steps in.

No. I was talking about the freebie section. It wasn't bad when the bumps where once or twice a day. But now it's become about every 1 to 2 hours for a couple of the threads. I just wanted to make sure first that it was against the rules before I mod-alerted any threads.

The threads I have been bumping is because they are different than they normally are. Also not everyone is here all day so they might check the site for a few minutes and then see it and say "Oh yeah, I need to send messages or click." People are busy and have down times at different times of the day. This goes with my previous sentence - you also say that it wasn't problem before when it's once or twice a day, well then you are not here everyday all day because this has been happening about 5-6 times a day since July

The BreastCancer website I'm currently bumping is because their sponsors are matching for each click for November only (definitely different than what they normally have.) The Nestle Sticks of Hope I was bumping because Nestle said in their rules that they would donate 25 cents for each message sent. I was doing it since $50,000 isn't much when you see how much medical costs are these days and they continue to rise. I have since been told of a rumour that Nestle is donating only $50,000, so I have since stopped bumping it until I get official confirmation from them, since those are enough messages that those kids will remember for a lifetime if that indeed turns out to be true.

I have been bumping only when it goes off the front page since I noticed that in the beginning that after it goes off the first page, nothing gets added. Also many members saying that by having it on the first page reminded them to send messages or click. I also kept bumping since I don't like to see more than 2 stickies in a forum because it makes the first page with more constants and then all the deals get moved down and then you have to scroll down to see a movable thread. I also am not bumping constantly so that it's the first thread you see, my main concern that as long as it's on the first page then people will see it and remember to click. When other people bumped, I didn't bump it until it dropped to the second page, since I know it's just stupid to bump every certain amount of hours. Also it was for those that have either experienced cancer themselves or have kid(s) that have cancer that posted in that thread that made me stronger to keep bumping as summarized in this post: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=3111316&postcount=1

A few responses similiar to how I feel:

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=3223570&postcount=60

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=3890593&postcount=491

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=3836360&postcount=425

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=3841092&postcount=427

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=3895089&postcount=495

http://forums.slickdeals.net/showpost.php?p=3853250&postcount=441

Not personal attacking but just my 2 cents from my observation of the Freebie forum. My advice would be to ignore this thread(s). I see 3 right now that are on the first page that you get material things that are often there, and yet this is only 1 thread (was 2) out of 30 threads on the 1st page. It's only 1 out of 30 threads, I know you can ignore the thread. I'm not blanketing the first page with basically the same thing and spamming, it's only a thread or two (currently one.) I'm also not bumping dead threads to say I got this item - that's what I find the most annoying.

I also wouldn't bump these threads this often if I know how the charity functions normally. For example the Breast Cancer website, I won't but this often after November since I know that clicks aren't matched (just November is a special case).

We now have the ability for each member to add personal stickies so there should be little to no reason to bump. If you feel a thread deserves special attention, please mod alert it asking for it to be made a sticky.

I appreciate why you are bumping the threads, but this is really not something you should take upon yourself to do.

:iagree: with R1yan.

:disagree: with the :addict: who insists on putting contrary posts in my threads. You know the kind of posts where people pretend to help but they are really being a smart @ss. You know who you are. I wish I could say :banned3: from posting in my threads. I have tried to be nice to you but it does not seem to work and I am tired of the whole thing.

:nocelery: Sorry to go :offtopic: but this is kind of pissing me off.

I asked on behalf of R1yan and myself that the breastcancersite.com thread be stickied for the month. This was several days ago. I never heard anything back.

I guess that Isis must be talking about me. I just found this thread
http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=36721&t=369715

Funny thing, she quoted my post but then edited it to make it look like I was thread-crapping.

My quote was
Freebiefan,

Just FYI. The rules do state that you can repost a deal that is over 6 months old. However, you don't have to start a new thread for an existing deal. You can just go the original thread and bump it with a note saying the offer is still valid. This could save you some time..

Welcome to Slickdeals and hope you have fun!!!!! :welcome: :welcome: :welcome:

I think that I am the one that's being harrassed. But that's okay. I guess she's mad because I complained about the breastcancer thread being bumped all day long. Which, by the way, is still happening.

random.

Reading that the way she handled that was out of line I think. I'm not sure if there is other comments in other threads, but based on that she overreacted.

I think the bumping of threads over and over shouldn't happen. If it's more than just the same two people with tons of posts in a row, then the bumping is fine, but bumping just to bump is annoying.

My reaction has nothing to do with this thread. It has been building for a while, but I have tried to make the best of it and behave with gentility. It does not seem to be working. I apologize to everyone else for my outburst. I am just really frustrated.

Well, then I wrongly assumed that Isis's outburst was connected to this thread. I was unaware that we had any kind of conflict building up. Other than this thread, I had not posted anything that I thought could be a problem for anyone. If I had not been purposely misquoted today, I probably would never have bother to respond to Isis's attack.

As for this thread, I'll try to make this the last time that I comment about bumping threads . I didn't mean to make such a big deal about it. I just asked the mods if it was allowed. They said that it was against the rules and advised them to stop bumping it. It is still being bumped but apparently the mods don't mind and they are in charge not me. The only reason I opposed the bumping is because the forum will get completely out of hand if each of us starts bumping threads just to keep them on the front page. In my opinion, it's good to have the most popular posts stay towards the top of the forum on their own.

On Nov.12, you and others who clicked on the "Fund Free Mammograms" button funded 7.7 mammograms for underprivileged women. See Daily Results (http://www.thebreastcancersite.com/cgi-bin/WebObjects/CTDSites.woa/555/wo/Js6000I43007f000P3/2.26.0.1.0.11.0.CustomContentLinkDisplayComponent.0.0) for more info.

Don't forget to also click across the tabs on the top (animal rescue site, rainforest, etc)

Please help me. I am really confused. How many mammograms were funded on Nov 12? The last four posts just weren't clear enough for me to read and apparently this is pretty important information that we all want to know.

7.7 mammograms funded

Oh wow..thank you so much. The 3 minutes I had to wait were just about unbearable.

Just an example. I could find more if I tried. Very snide. Please leave me and my threads alone. Thank you.

Isis,

Your post only proves my point. You are mad because I complained about the breastcancer thread being bumped all day long by the same 2 to 3 users. To try to get back at me, you purposely misquoted me in other threads to make me look bad. This was outright deceit on your part and you know it.

This should be added to the editing thread, bumping is a form of post editing. There has been alot of harassment by the editing, bumping of posts and it needs to farking stop. Or you will all get spankies and be sent to a corner with no milk and cookies.

As others have said you can sticky a post I dont need anyone to 'remind me'.

Isis is a hot looking momma and i am deeply in love with her

I set my control panel to Default Sort by Thread Creation Date... I've found it SO much easier to browse the forums under "The Deals" since then. If threads being bumped bugs you, you might want to give this a shot... it was odd at first but I like it a lot now.

I'd love to see an 'Ignore thread' or 'Hide thread' option implemented in the future.
