I don't know if it has been discussed before (didn't find it in a search, but really didn't know what to search for).

Currently, when we are posting in the 'Hot Deals' and 'Freebies' section of the forum, we are asked to select a category for our post (Apparel, Audio, Auto, etc.). Could this function be adapted to allow a member-only options of hiding/showing only certain categories when browsing the forum?

Stick with me, because here's the real suggestion: I would like to extend this functions by adding the following options: 'Requires PM (Price Matching)', 'Requires MIR (Mail-In-Rebate)', 'Requires Single-Use Coupon', 'Requires Multi-Use Coupon', 'Limited Time Sale Price', etc. and make these options available to hide/display.

In this way, members can single in on the deals that they would like to see when browsing the forum. For instance, I hate MIR deals and I am so beautiful (:lmao:) that I don't need beauty deals: I can go to my User CP and unselect the 'MIR Offers' and 'Beauty Category' from the viewable list and I will not see them when browsing the forum. SD has been getting slammed with huge amounts of posts over the past few months, by giving this option it will help members in sorting through the mish-mash to find those deals that they are specifically looking for.

This could also cut down on the 'Mail in Rebates SUCK!' and 'Why is this in the Hot Deals?' comments that often incite flame wars. Inform these people to use the aforementioned options to hide the types of deals they do not wish to see.

The category options are already required, why not put them to further use? I know we can filter by category, this is just an extension of that option for members. Yet another reason for lurkers to actually become a member of this wonderful forum.

Thoughts? Comments? Suggestions?

Nobody finds this idea interesting? Weird...

random.

I think it might just take too much effort to organize something like that.

It's not something I would be interested in.

If it were possible, I'd probably use it, but I don't know that it would be easy to pull off.

Good suggestion

Thanks for the comments, it helps knowing what everyone is thinking of these ideas

I can agree that the second part of my suggestion is probably overly complicating the matter, yes. But I do feel that the first part, based on the post categories, is feasible (although I admit it would be less useful than the second part of my suggestion). SD currently has the ability to limit what is viewed in the forums by the category (scroll to the bottom and click on a category in Hot Deals for example). This would just be an extension of that function, at a member level.
