hi ShlockDoc,
it's not just you. i've seen that same message on and off today as well as in the past few weeks. it seems to happen during the site's "busier times" (when i use the search function in the wee hours of the morning, i don't have the same problem -- searches are fine)
i made a suggestion in JHB's thread about this search problem (http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?t=356147) (9th post) -- it has its advantages and disadvantages, but at least it's an alternative to the SD search function when it's acting funky.
Hopefully, the search function here will work more consistently sometime soon

i also noticed that you can no longer "search this forum" without being logged in. that option disappears in the tab area when i log off.
Today, all searches are sorted by oldest first. Anyone else seeing that?

Search should be humming along better than ever now. Let us know if you see anything funny with it. There should not be any more "no results found" either :D.

I am still having a problem witht he search. It isn't sorting correctly, I sort by thread start date and used to do in descending order but it doesn't seem to be working now. I also don't think it is grabbing all the results. For example I searched entire post for seagate and the latest thread it came up with was 02-15-2006. There HAD to be another post with the word seagate in it since feb. Is anyone else having this problem?
UPDATE: So after I posted this, I searched for seagate again and this thread didn't even come up (not sure about how long after a post triggers search results).
If I search from WITHIN the area forum it works fine but when I use the search at the top menu bar for the entire site it doesn't (yes it is set to search all forums).

Ditto. If I do a quick search from within Hot Deals it works fine. If I go out to Advanced Search, I get strange results (e.g. if I sort by Thread Started, Descending I am only seeing threads from March 2006 back (nothing recent). My exact search was for "Ultra" with Thread Started Descending.

I found a whole bunch of weird things and let Red Solar know. He said that they will be working on fixing it once again and to lay off the noob reposters in the mean time. :vomit:
I usually search the SD site through Google first, which works pretty well, then use the search feature here on the site itself.
As of early this morning it wasn't working for me. So I kinda made a repost and then ended up feeling like a deer caught in your Christmas lights (made new post with the old link and should've just edited it into my original. Then couldn't delete second post.) Sigh. Hate being a newbie. :(

FYI - Flaky search is back today
Now that I've been around a little more... A huge problem is that OP's don't tag. I just caught a post of my own where it needed a few tags because an advanced search failed to show it.
Tags help a great deal. I've only ever seen the repost warning message once so I don't rely on it now.
