For those of you wanting to use the SIM from this in an iPhone or Android, look here for instructions:
http://wiki.howardforums.com/index.php/Straight_Talk_Android <-- Android
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1691930-HowTo-StraightTalk-and-iPhone!-Everything-you-need-to-know-to-make-it-work! <-- iPhone (ALL AT&T iPhones, NO UNLOCK NEEDED)
Even if your using the iPhone, I suggest you read the Android link as I have put tips and important info in there that applies to everyone (namely "Unlimited" Data and Calling CS)
WARNING: DATA IS NOT TRULY UNLIMITED!! 2GB a month is roughly safe to use.
This runs on the AT&T Network and gets AT&T Postpaid coverage (voice+text, data may not be avail while roaming). You can port your existing number to it.
TO ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO PORT:
Activate the phone along with the # port request. If you port it after activating, the sim they sent you will be invalid and they will ship you another one (3-7 busines days) <-- possibly invalid, not always
FUN FACT: Works in USVI without issue and full service! (PM JeremyM if you have any questions)
I was in St Thomas, VI last week and brought my E71 and unlocked Dell Streak. Both worked with full bars and full 3g data coverage.

Yes.

Ummm. Buying the $45 unlimited plan is basically the whole point of this deal.
You buy the Refurb E71 for $50, (and $45 for your first month of service) and then switch the sim card out of this phone and put it in your Iphone. Now you can cancel your current Iphone plan (AT&T etc) and have an unlimited talk/text/data plan on an Iphone for $45 per month, without a contract through straighttalk (and you still get AT&T network, just not AT&T customer service!)
Did I miss the point of your comment or did you miss the point of this deal?!

Sorry, I guess I was unclear. I meant that you had to buy the first month's service immediately with the phone for a total of $94.99. I was going to buy just the phone and wait to activate it until my current contract ran out, but didn't want to buy the card immediately, if that makes any sense.

Understandable. The card that comes with it for 30 days of service is valid for 90 days, possibly longer.
Edit: I mean to say it expires in 90 days if unused

I setup on Iphones, couldn't give you any advice on any other phone, runs flawless on every version Iphone, fully functional except for VVM but youmail is better anyway IMO, no unlock needed but must be jailbroken to get native mms, if you cant jailbreak the phone at the moment there's always mms apps in app store for now, true 3G data(easily 2Mbps+), not throttled like H20. I use about 3gb a month including tethering with native hot spot setting and tethering apps from Cydia and have never had a problem, just don't abuse it I guess.
Now the catch to this is YOU CANNOT sell or give the E71 away because if someone sticks another sim other than the original sim that the phone was activated with in the E71 phone, YOUR $45 plan is DEAD!! but you can swap the sim between the E71 and any other phone.

Just a heads up. I purchased during Black Friday a $40 phone and $30/month unlimited promo for a year directly from Straight Talk and was the biggest mistake of my life. I am currently in dispute to get my $70 bucks back. I had wasted 4 days without any phone service while porting my number over. Frequent calls with tech support led to the theory that the new phone they sent me was defective. They suggested that I go to Walmart and exchange for the same phone. I did that, drove immediately to Walmart only to find that they didn't carry the same model phone.
Went home, called tech support, and was told their systems were down and to call back in 2 hours. I ended up going back to Simple Mobile but had to buy a new sim card and first month activation whereas before I still had 3 weeks of use before switching to Straight Talk.
To everyone here: Be very careful with Straight Talk. If you are satisfied with your current service then STAY WITH THEM! Straight Talk sucks!

H20 throttled data alone is a deal breaker and there IS small apn mod to get data & mms going for both!! oh almost forgot, you cannot use data(surf the web etc..) during a call on H20, @ $50 the E71 is a nice little backup handset, done.

Their customer service is DEPLORABLE! It is like carrying on a conversation with a kitten fascinated with a ball of yarn.
Their cell service isn't great if you aren't used to AT&T, but it gets the job done. Connecting on calls seems to take forever in comparison with Verizon. I have never had as many dropped calls as I have since switching to Straight Talk and their use of AT&T towers.
But...for $45 a month for "unlimited" everything, I have learned to hack it. Although, by "unlimited," I secretly mean "limited."

Took them some three weeks to figure out how to get my phone working...then another week to get the number ported.
Amazingly enough, after reaching the point where I had two days left before I had to return the phone before the 30-day money back was up, I told them they would have it up and running by the next day or it was coming back to them. Within an hour, they had it done!!! I guess they had to pull someone off of their WoW game in order to do their damn job!
I have been using StraighTalk now for over 6-months or more. Ported my number from AT&T, never had to talk to their customer service, never experienced any data cut-off problems and I browse a lot and even stream my music from Amazon Cloud services time to time. Send crazy number of food pictures almost everyday to friends, facebook, Yelp, and Foursquare. I almost forget to use WiFi. Still no data cut-off. I Even tethered on my recent vacation on my Android Tablet. Last 6 months I used Xperia Arc and Nokia N9. My wife uses iPhone4 and no problems.
About 4-5 months back Amazon sold their 6-months pre-paid card for $199 and 3-months for $99 with this same $45 unlimited plan. Hope Amazon stocks them again.
Only problem I have is I am not able to receive international SMS.

I was a Straight Talk customer for about 6 months. The text/talk was great, but data sucked (my phone at the time was not a smart phone though).
At that time, I was told they ran on the Verizon network (I am in Southern Iowa, if that makes any difference). I see a lot of people on here claiming these run off of the ATT network......is it just this phone, or has Straight Talk switched from Verizon to ATT???
It depends on the phone you buy. A CDMA phone is verizon's network while GSM is ATT.

Also I understand the no-contract business. But I don't change plans...ever. I've been with ATT forever now. Does this deal make sense for me?

I've been using this with my wifes iPhone 3GS for about a year (bought the E71 for $200 at WMart)... we've been saving just under $50 / mo since then so the cost was repaid VERY quickly :)
For that matter, if you can get past the slightly funky interface, the E71 is a surprisingly well-featured phone with nearly every bell and whistle imaginable.
Things to consider:
I think I remember reading there are some serial numbers that the "iPhone SIM switcharoo" will not work with.
iPhone will need to be unlocked.
You will lose visual voicemail (not a dealbreaker for me @ $50 / mo savings).

I just ordered this phone last Thursday for $99.99 (also refurbished) and thought I was getting a good deal. I wonder if there is any chance for a price adjustment. I actually really like the phone. If I decided to put the sim card in a different smart phone (iPhone or Android) what would be a good, affordable way to get one? Buy a used AT&T phone or get an unlocked one? Used iPhones 4 are still quite expensive.

It is called the value plan. My family had been tapping into my account for sometime. Now we are trying consolidate lines. I can add to my brother's acc and pay the addition charges. 5$ for 500 min. And 5$ for unlimited edge after 200mb 4G speed at iPhone's edge speed LOL. Text is included in family lines. Now half my family on tmo and other on sprint. So I went and bought me this.

Yes it does. It's been a year or so since I set it up, but I'm fairly certain if you want MMS to work properly (and we definitely did) you will need to unlock the phone to add the appropriate settings.

AT&T is notorious for knowing you're using a smartphone, but that will kill the $45 unlimited sim, if you dont mind give it a shot
 The ST sim is going into my AT&T Android. The sim i plan on putting into the E71 is that of an ATT voice plan. If they charge me for data, I drop the plan and move on. How will kill the $45 ST sim/plan?

Actually I do.
Jailbreaking allows you to install 3rd party applications, customize graphics, sounds, etc. Unlocking allows you to use the phone on networks other than AT&T or change carrier settings, for instance to use MMS ;).

You're confused, but I can see why...
The jailbreak is needed only initially to unlock the phone. Once it's unlocked (so MMS works the way it's supposed to) you can upgrade or Restore any time (which essentially re-locks the device) and keep the unlocked settings:

W'ere just saying that you don't need to unlock to get mms when using an AT&T phone, which is what you said you said you unlocked for mms, not picking at you or taking sides just repeating what you said.

But you *do* need to unlock it to get MMS on an iPhone using a StraightTalk SIM. Really, you do.
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php/1691930-HowTo-StraightTalk-and-iPhone!-Everything-you-need-to-know-to-make-it-work!
Now, in order to actually make significant changes to the carrier settings on an iPhone you need to jailbreak it in order to unlock it.
This is an important distinction because the phone doesn't *have* to remain jailbroken for MMS to continue working. Upgrading to newer iOS's, for example, will re-lock the phone - but there's no need to re-jailbreak it because the *unlocked* settings survive the upgrade.

What do we do if we got a sim without 'P' in it?
Can we exchange it?
If exchange is possible, what happen if we receive another non 'P' sim?
Last be not least. Is there any record of one who received a sim without 'P' with the purchase of these E71 or 6790?
Would like to know this as well... How common is it to receive one of these "P" Sim Cards ? Now, I'm worried... Ughh.

AftrBrner, thanks for all your help, but you are actually using the term "unlock" incorrectly.
Changing carrier settings to get native MMS working on the iPhone, very helpful by the way, only involves jailbreaking so one can get access to the /System/Library/Carrier Bundles and making the necessary changes (regardless of what method used to get them). However, that does not "unlock" the phone to be used on other carriers.

I was wondering the same thing... Hopefully these aren't ones that have been returned because the SIM can't be used in other phones. But it's a $100 (total) bet for a lot more in savings!
Besides, if all else fails ebay / craigslist it if it isn't the right serial. I'm guessing, but I'd think you could get some / most of the $100 back.

I have the $50 unlimited with tmobile on my 3gs. Seems like a waste because I can't get the 4g speed. Is it worth it to get this plan and phone?
Yes, because you don't even get 3G speeds on an iPhone if you use T-Mobile service with it...
can elaborate of the data cut issue? I am trying to decide wether if I should go with tmo with 200mb 3G and unlimited edge (additional line) on my iPhone 4 or the straight talk. on tmobile I can get 500min and data for $10. while on straight talk I must pay 45.A little off topic, but Tmobile 500 min and data for $10? Yes it does. It's been a year or so since I set it up, but I'm fairly certain if you want MMS to work properly (and we definitely did) you will need to unlock the phone to add the appropriate settings.
I think you are confused.
The only time you need to unlock the handset is so that you can use a SIM CARD that is not AT&T's*.
When it comes to AT&T resellers like ST or H20, all you need to do is jailbreak, to access the MMS settings.
I had a factory unlocked iphone 3G from overseas and still had to jailbreak to access the MMS settings. The phone accepted any sim card without an issue but to change MMS to a carrier not approved by apple (like Tmobile US), I had to jailbreak. End of story
* Generally only applicable to US versions of the iphone. Iphones sold overseas are typically unlocked from the factory.

Nonetheless, this is an excellent deal/option for anyone who wants to use a smartphone on AT&T's network, while only paying $45 for unlimited calls, text and about 2GB of 3G speed data.

Where else, other than Walmart.com and Straighttalk.com can you get the monthly service cards? I think I will get charged tax in NY on the $45 plan... That makes it almost $50/mo which kind of sucks.
Anyone know if they actually charge state sales tax when purchasing via WM or ST or via auto-refill?

No. But they don't close your account down immediately. They give you a call, ask you what your doing, tethering, etc. Just say you left youtube open and forgot to close it. They'll then scold you and turn your data back on. Then learn your lesson and keep your usage below 2GB a month and below 100MB a day. There are plenty of apps to do this.

No, but its "safe". There are indeed (few) people have reported using 5GB a month for as long as they've had the phone (4-8 months) without issue. However, I think they just slipped through the cracks.
I don't want to run the risk of getting shut down and I have 3G Watchdog (Android app) alert me if I hit 1.5GB. I think lots of mins, unlimited text, and and 2GB of data is well worth $45.
On AT&T contract, 450 mins, Unlimited text, and 2GB is $40+$20+$25 = $85. So considering how much you save, I think its worth the minor inconvenience of watching your data usage.

I have done with my friend's wife's phone, and it works great. She is not a super heavy data user, but she does stream Spotify here and there and makes a good bit of calls. Never had an issue. Just do NOT screw up cutting your SIM card if you need to make it a microSIM because their customer service is horrible and it will take you weeks to get a new SIM if you mess up the cut.

I really dont think Sprint unlocks your 4S for USA GSM carriers, I think its only unlocked for International carriers.
According to Sprint, the company will "allow existing customers in good standing to unlock the SIM for international use if needed in the future" if customers explicitly ask for the unlock.

No, it says activation required and kept searching for a while and then No Network. It doesn't let me use the phone at all. They said my iPhone is unlocked but it's not true. Sprint sucks!

Have you tried plugging the phone to the computer and running iTunes?
Its unlocked, but only if you go outside the US. So if you go to Canada, you can buy a SIM there and use it and not pay roaming on Sprint.
From their press release:
Sprint's policy is to have the iPhone 4S SIM locked to our network domestically and internationally. Beginning on November 11, the International SIM will be locked for devices provisioned on the Sprint network. Customers in good standing for at least 90 days can request to have their SIM unlocked for international use by calling Customer Care at 888-211-4727.
Customers can sign up for one of our international rate plans and use this phone in most countries all over the world. When traveling internationally, there is a setting that must be turned on within the device to connect to GSM. International voice and data charges are on a pay-as-you-go basis and vary based on the country where the customer is using their phone; a list of rates is available at www.sprint.com/international.

Can any of you ST folks recommend a good android qwerty keyboard phone? I see the Samsung captivate glide, but I'm not ready to spend $400. Anything between the more entry level HTC status and that Samsung? Any decent gsm motorola's that have been known to work with this e71 sim? I'm dying to try out ST but I need android and a keyboard not an iphone...

Walmart has also lowered the price on the Nokia E71 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-Nokia-E71-Prepaid-GSM-Cell-Phone/15266346) ($99.98) AND Nokia E-5 (http://www.walmart.com/ip/Straight-Talk-Nokia-E-5-GSM-Smartphone/17117841) ($169.88) if you prefer to go that route. This DOES NOT include prepaid card and appear to be new. Not refurb if that matters to you. I have seen the E-5 in stores but not the E71.

What's amazing is that you can get 2 ST services for the price of 1 AT&T postpaid. And the AT&T service does not even included half the offerings.
Prepaying 6 months worth of service brings the cost down to $41.6 a month.

I don't see why you couldn't use the handset on AT&T, considering it works the other way round.
You'd have to wait for someone to confirm this though.

Just received my E71 and it looks pretty much like new. Pretty good for a refurb.
Now I just need to make up my mind what to do with it. Haha... I use my company phone for everything but we have AT&T family plan for my wife and two kids. My wife is the only one with data plan but she has the grandfathered unlimited plan, so in that sense she doesn't really need this.
My older daughter is going to college next year, so this might be good for her, then.
BTW, I don't remember if it has been discussed in this thread already or not, but is the E71 locked with ST or this plan or can I just sell it on Craigslist/Ebay etc. as I really don't need it?

You can sell the phone, but unless the person who buys it already has a working ST sim they are going to have a hard time getting ST to send them a new one. Also, I believe the IMEI of the phone is tied to account, which means they will not be able to activate it again - although it might work with an already active sim . This is what I've read on HowardForums. The E71 is always good to keep around in case whichever phone you use with your sim breaks.

No, you cant use ST phones in any other network (even AT&T) as it is nearly impossible to unlock it. (i have not heard anybody done that)

No, whatever you do, DO NOT sell the phone for as long as you want to use service on the SIM. If the person buys it and gets a SIM from ST and activates the phone, your service will be deactivated.

ST also includes free roaming....

Don't think you can port tmobile number now that it's dead you may need to re activate it, you usually have to port old number while it's active..... also when porting it's best to port while activating new line.

They ported my # from ATT and now have to send me anoter sim. I will have to wait another 5-7 business days to get the sim. In the meantime I have no service from ATT or ST and will miss all important incalls. WTF?

TO ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO PORT:
Activate the phone along with the # port request. If you port it after activating, the sim they sent you will be invalid and they will ship you another one (3-7 busines days)

Read the posting correctly. You can't use unbranded phone. The phone should be from straighttalk as the IMEI of the phone resides in the system and they give a sim based on the IMEI number.. So for your case no go..YOu need to buy on Nokia E71 straight talk phone..

You can still port in later, its just more of a hassle. Just note you will lose ALL current service and days paid for, so do it after you've used up your 30 days unless you dont care.
They will most likely send you a new SIM card in order to port your number in.

To all those activating these E71s. Here is what I have gathered from my 16+ hours of dealing with their Cust Service:
1) See my earlier post about porting
2) The refurb phones belonged to someone else in the past and were associated with their phone #. Mine was an area code 2000 miles away. Even though they sent you a new sim, it has not been linked with your phone and your sim will fail to register. You will need to call CS and have them activate the sim. They will keep telling you to just wait an hour and then turn the phone off & on. Or they will tell you that they need to send you a new sim. Insist that you already have a new sim and they need to activate it. Ask to talk to "teir 2" tech support. After lot of insistence and hours it will happen ...Also port at the time of activation or else ...(see my earlier post)
What a shame about customer service ....
And I just saw Metro PCS promotion for $100 for 4 lines, unlimited voice, text and data. You have to buy their phone though or flash the verizon ones...
Pls rep if you fell like :)

cool that you're unlocked, but don't need unlock for this, just need jailbreak for native mms to work. This sim runs on at&t's network so you'll get true 3G speeds and be able to access data during a call etc...

Absolute worst customer service. I tried returning a phone I bought previously and it took well over 3 hours and they kept trying to get me to activate the phone. But I must add that if you don't have to deal w/their csr then it is a great plan. I'm using it w/my IPhone 3GS. Just dont go over 2gb data per month and keep to about 100mb per day and you will be fine. I know from firsthand exp. Great deal.

They already know we're not using the E71 with the SIM if we're using iPhones or Androids, an iPad won't trigger anything special.

I have to say the customer service sucks. I order the phone and came in Monday. It was next day since I ordered it late Thursday. I get the phone and put the SIM in and the phone says SIM card registration failed. This is on Monday. I let them know about it and they said they would activate it on their end. They start the port process late Monday and they said it would take a couple of hours to a couple of days. My phone was set to renew with T-Mobile Wednesday. The port went through Wednesday. So, I try to use my E71 and it still states the SIM card registration failed. I am now now of service with T-Mobile and STW is not working either. They said they would ship out the new SIM Wednesday. Why didn't they do this on Monday or Tuesday when I told them it was not registering Monday? I have no service and need it for work. They better offer me some compensation. I am furious with their customer service so far.

If it makes it any better...once porting process goes through everything works pretty well....I do not know if it is ST or company you are porting from I ported from AT&T prepaid and process was less than smooth, however ported from AT&T postpaid and process was pretty smooth. There has been some instances when some individuals forever lost their number(s) while porting...but they are few and far in between. I got 14 days of service for compensation (took 5 days to port one #)Good luck!

Like Magnum2005 said, when porting, it's your current carrier that makes this delayed by not releasing your number, NOT the carrier you're porting to.

Well I got everything activated and ported over from TMobile. I have to admit. That was Sunday. Today is Friday and I am willing to RUN back to TMobile. I have had more dropped calls than anything. I put the sim into my 3gs and when its on 3g it is faster but in the middle of a phone call--click. Every day since Sunday. That sucks. So if anyone knows how to fix this great. My tmobile phone(sensation 4g) was giving me no service and 1 bar.
paid 200 termination fee and moved to straight talk(customer service sux!!!!!!!!!!!)
No problem with service = dont have to call monkeys
I think my 5 year old cousin can speak/understand better.
I always get around 3mb down and 1 up. Drove all around texas with no problem.
I cant believe they dont waive termination fee even if they dont service your area. They put it in contract few years ago so they can get paid.

Yeah, they ported my att number before they sent me a new SIM card as well and it took 2 weeks of frustration to finally get a working cell phone. They did give me a free month as a result. Once everything is set up, there really is no reason for customer service. I'm enjoying the E71 until I find a free android to stick the SIM card in.

They told me they can fix it in 2 days but that was lie.

No. But if you buy the 3-month refills, it comes out to be less than $45/mo even with taxes.
In some states, prepaid refills are not charged tax, in which case you can buy it from walmart.com and they just email you the pin code.

Haha, not going to happen on AT&T. H2O Wireless is supposedly getting $55 Unlimited Talk/Text + 1GB Data soon and considering that H2O is one of the largest ATT MVNO's, they should be able to get the lowest wholesale prices from AT&T yet thats still not comparable to ST. (America Movil/Tracfone/Straight Talk is probably AT&T's #1 MVNO) H2O is owned by KDDI btw, which is huge and they aren't able to get much out of AT&T compared to competing MVNOs (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/KDDI_Corporation). AT&T isn't going to give its MVNOs anything game changing. Its all cookie cutter $40 Unlimited Talk/Text, $50 Unlimited Talk/Text+250MB, and $60 Unlimited Talk/Text+2GB for the moment (H2O, Red Pocket, Jolt Mobile, etc [all ATT MVNOs])
I wouldn't count on seeing anything better than the $45/mo "Unlimited" currently on Straight Talk for something that uses AT&T towers. At least not in the next 6 months. Not to mention ST has better coverage than AT&T's own GoPhone service, which is worth something.
If your fine with few minutes and T-Mobile coverage, they do have the $30 100 min, Unlimited Text/MMS, and 5GB high-speed internet followed by throttled unlimited. People with the T-Mobile SGS2 have speedtested 10-15mbps down on that plan.
But yeah, I understand your concern about the 3 months thing. I don't use more than 1GB a month on ST, so I doubt they'll ever kick me off :)

Have spent 8+ hours with ST customer service over two days to sort out activation, number porting etc ....
They ported my # from ATT and now have to send me anoter sim. I will have to wait another 5-7 business days to get the sim. In the meantime I have no service from ATT or ST and will miss all important incalls. WTF?
Worst CS i have dealt with all my life.
TO ALL THOSE WHO WANT TO PORT:
Activate the phone along with the # port request. If you port it after activating, the sim they sent you will be invalid and they will ship you another one (3-7 busines days)
I hope in the end the savings will be worth this BS!
I wonder if this is just an isolated incident?
I want to test out ST before i port... try it for just a few days and see if i get good service, then port. If i port right away i will lose my current plan with sprint and there will be no way for me to get it back (sero)

not isolated. i called myself heeding the warning of technophile and ported along with the activation request. i received the phone on time, and went to activate it but was still told they would have to send another SIM card. i was told likewise to wait 3-7 business days. there have been a couple of obvious lies, like my address was the reason the SIM hadn't shipped out yet.

I was in the exact same boat, out of contract on a couple of sero's, seriously debating the 3g phone options with sprint, and spending another $10 a month (plus taxes) on my $30 plan for those phones was going to cost exactly the same as this deal after taxes... So I bit the bullet, ordered the e71, activated, swapped, and am now in love my 3g iphone. The ST/ATT service does seem better (coverage and call quality) than the sprint service.
I think this will kill off quite a few old $30 sero plan folks that just can't deal with the TP2 anymore. Sorry sprint, it's been fun

Yup! Agree with you. With SERO, In my house, I would constantly have calls go straight to my voicemail. This never happened with the tests i did with the E71 .... also I only got about 100-200 kb/sec with sprint... w/ ST i get a 800-900kb/sec.
Check this out.. you can make it actually much cheaper than SERO..
Right now ST has a deal for the samsung TG01G. The phone comes with 3 months of the unlimited service for $99. If you use FW cashback and can sell the TG01G for like $20. It ends up being $24/month
For me:
$99+ 6% tax for the 3 months unlimited service + TG01G phone= $105
FW CB = -$15
Sell phone= -$20
=$70 for 3 months (or $23.33/month)
I went ahead and bought a years worth lol

IOS 5.0.1 UNTETHERED JAILBREAK released for all non A5 devices!!
I am in kind of a difficult position right now. Currently I have the SERO premium plan which gives me 500 daytime minutes, unlimited mobile-mobile calls to any cell, unlimited text, and unlimited data for $45 a month after taxes. Same price as StraightTalk. I am trying to decide if I should stay with Sprint and get an iphone or do the ST iphone sim swap trick.
Basically through my research it comes down to this..
Sprint
Pros: Truly unlimited data, don't have to worry about being shut off or terminated.
Cons: slower 3G data than AT&T. I get about 1 meg max d/l on Sprint and more like 200-500kb average. At home it's even worse but I can use wifi so not a huge deal.
Straight Talk
Pros: Faster data, unlimited minutes
Cons: Could be shut off at anytime for using too much data, customer service sounds like it is pretty poor.
Have to jailbreak iphone to get MMS to work. Have to worry if ST will catch on in the future and block everyone's phones (this has been going on for over a year with no one saying anything).
I know that theoretically AT&T data should be 2-3x times faster, but in tests I've seen AT&T averaging only 1.6 mbps, with Sprint around 0.8 mbps. If I'm browsing mobile websites on Opera Mini, or streaming a song or podcast is that even going to be a noticeable difference? My guess is no. With Sprint I would keep unlimited data and basically have unlimited minutes anyways with any mobile any time. Even if I don't go over 2GB I just like that I don't have to worry about how much I'm messing around with apps or browsing/streaming on Sprint. Also if I got rid of SERO I would have no chance of keeping that cheap plan when LTE comes along. With ST I can forget tethering (MyWi), 3G Facetime, or any other data intensive app.
There it is, right now I don't know what to do. I don't currently need unlimited minutes but that could always change in the future and it's just something that would be nice to have. The data part of ST scares me having to always watch what I'm downloading and limit my usage to wifi as much as possible. The thing is, if I cancel my SERO plan it will be lost forever. It seems like the ST plan will be around for awhile and they don't seem to be cracking down on iphone users unless they are using too much data. The plus to staying with Sprint would be that I would keep unlimited data, and hopefully when the new LTE phones come out I will be able to get blazing fast unlimited speeds with no cap. This will never be possible on AT&T or any other network. I would save $132 a year or $264 2/yr on ST, but the other wild card is that I'm out of contract on Sprint so I'm eligible for the full upgrade credit. If I stay with Sprint I would probably try to buy an iphone 4 8GB on ebay for ~$300, save my upgrade credit, use it on the iphone 5 later in the year if it has LTE, and then sell the iphone 4 basically making the upgrade to the 5 free.
What would you do if you were in my situation? Stick it out with SERO or move on?

In regards to ST cutting you off, it depends on how much data you use. I've been SIM swapping for 5 months without issue on various Android phones. I never use more than 1GB of data a month. The general rule is no more than 2GB a month and no more than 100MB a day will keep you in the safe zone. I haven't heard of anyone getting their service cut off who abides by this. Even if you use too much data, they just turn off your data. At which point you can just port to another carrier.

As for AT&T speeds, I can get 6mbps on ST no problem, with 3+ mbps consistently.
