Category Icons In Freebies +

There are sooo many "other" icons being used. I think we need some new ones. I suggest:

Books
Children (or Kids)
Communications
Downloads
Education (or Knowledge)
Family (Thanks finnzz2dlft)
Gadgets (or Equipment)
Health
Internet
Religious
Rewards
Walmart (because there are so many Walmart freebies)

I do realize that the ones we have now are not being used efficiently. Examples:

Up To $8.00 In Sample Promo Items - office instead of other
Free ' How to Save a Life ' Blue Bracelet - apparel instead of other
Bath Samples From Country Bunny - beauty instead of other

I am not picking on the people who posted these.

But, how about these: (all used the "other" icon)

Free Blood Glucose Monitor from dLife (health)
Rewards membership for Dick scott Motor Mall~MI (rewards)
TV / Movie-related fonts (internet or downloads)
Google Adds Skype to Google Pack (internet)
Natures Bounty Free sample (omega-3 fish oil pills) (health)
Help Us Test a New Cell Phone for Tweens (gadgets or communications)
E028 Splash Free Sample Promotion from Neocate - Medical Drink for children (health or children)

(I admit I did not read the entire post for the examples.)

Also can we get a "script prompt" in freebies? It would really be helpful to those of us who like to put an explanation of the freebie in our post. It is a pain when you cannot cut & paste.

I don't really frequent the freebie forum but I think that's an excellent idea. All that along with a sticky to tell people about the new icons and to remind them to use them. :thumbsup:

People would probably still just choose other instead of looking at the rest if they didn't realize there were new ones. A reminder would only do good.

I was just reading in the FAQ's about the tags you can assign posts. It seems like you can just tag it however you want if you disagree with the person that made the post. That way, you would not have to bother the original poster and still get it exactly the way you think it should it be.

Some of the tags are automatically assigned when the deal is posted, but can be added by any registered user, with the following hierarchy:

* Moderators can edit tags for all users
* Distinguished users can edit their own tags, tags assigned by other distinguished users, and tags assigned by regular users
* Regular users can edit their own tags and tags of other regular users only.
* Anonymous users (those without a user account in the forums) cannot edit tags, but can view and search for them

I know what a Moderator and Anonymous user are, but what is the definition of Distinquished user and Regular user?

I thought of 3 other catagories: Travel and something like Event (like Walmart events or YMMV) maybe also something like one time for freebies that are given out starting @ a certain time on a certain day.

Could we have an icon for Surveys and Maybe one for Trials and maybe a treble clef for music.

We already have one for surveys and music which is a great suggestion. The trials one is a good one. Also, as Isis pointed out, the other icon is being used way too much and improperly used at times: http://forums.slickdeals.net/showthread.php?sduid=0&t=368443

How about one for "printables" to cover all the "free" recipe sites people post or content such as paper airplane instructions, crafts, reindeer poop recipe, gift tags, scrapbboking fonts, layouts etc etc.

I would also argue we could use a tag entitled "junk that should never have been posted" but clearly I am in a bad mood and need a hug or at least some advil. (I had a root canal, tooth extraction and bridge prep yesterday) Oh screw the advil, somebody email me some Vicodin. hubby's picking up my RX in an hour and my jjaw feels like it's gonna explode.

Let's all have a pity party for me...

I have also seen current icons that aren't being used when they should be and the "other" icon is being used.
