09. The offer is not advertised in my region. Is the offer valid in my region?
10. The item's online price does not match the item's price in the advertisement. Will the rewards payout be the advertised price or the purchase price?
11. When will the rewards be noted on the rewards account?
12. How and when will the rewards / bonus rewards be paid out?
13. Do rewards expire?
14. Can rewards be used to purchase gift cards?
15. What is the best way to cash out the Rewards?
16. Does the purchase of an item with an 100% back in rewards or a fixed value rewards offer count toward the purchase requirement for the ink/toner recycling program?
17. The terms and conditions of the MaxPerks Rewards for Business program appear to have a $500 purchase requirement before rewards payout? Do I have to purchase $500 worth of items at OfficeMax before MaxPerks pays out the bonus rewards?

01. Is membership in a MaxPerks Rewards program required to take advantage of these bonus offers?

Yes, membership is required. To join either fill out an application in-store or online at http://www.officemaxperks.com.

02. What are MaxPerks Rewards and what can MaxPerks Rewards purchase?

MaxPerks Rewards are effectively OfficeMax store credit with an expiration date. MaxPerks Rewards can be used to purchase most items in-store, online and by phone except they "are not redeemable for gift cards, general use pre-paid cards, phone cards and are not redeemable for cash unless otherwise required by law."**

03. Can only businesses and teachers join the MaxPerks Rewards programs?

Anyone who meets the following requirements can join: "MaxPerks is open to legal residents of the 50 United States (and D.C., Puerto Rico, and the U.S. Virgin Islands) age eighteen (18) years and older who have internet access to manage their MaxPerks account."**

Teachers may sign-up for the MaxPerks Rewards for Teachers program. The main advantage of the Teachers rewards program is the higher standard rewards payout ($10 for every $75 in qualified purchases for Teachers versus $25 for every $500 in qualified purchases for Business). The main disadvantage of the Teachers rewards program is that the rewards are paid out quarterly.

Everyone else should sign-up for the MaxPerks Rewards for Business program. Where the business application requests "Business Name" enter first and last name.

04. If a bonus rewards item is paid for with rewards will the bonus rewards still be awarded? In other words, do rewards "roll"?

Yes, to date, with one exception.

Paying for 100% back in bonus rewards, $0.01 after bonus rewards and fixed value (buy X, get $Y in rewards) bonus rewards offers with rewards have earned rewards so at least for those three types of bonus rewards offers, MaxPerks rewards have "rolled".

The one type of bonus rewards offer that does not roll is "Get X% Back in MaxPerks Rewards on most everything". The offers' terms noted the exception:

"*20% MaxPerks Bonus Rewards offer valid in-store from June 20, 2010 thru June 26, 2010. Saving pass, phone promo code or online promo code and member's MaxPerks ID card must be presented at time of purchase. No Bonus Reward adjustments will be made after purchase. Not valid on computers, gift cards, general use prepaid cards, phone cards, purchases with a Retail ConnectSM card, sales tax, OfficeMax private label ink, toner and ink refills, Sprint® monthly price plans and purchases made prior to enrollment and purchases with a MaxPerks Reward Card."

05. Does using coupons impact the rewards payout?

It depends on the type of bonus rewards offer:

---- if it's a 100% back bonus rewards offer, then using a coupon will reduce the rewards payout. Dollar off coupons are still useful in reducing the initial outlay, the eventual rewards payout, and the amount of sales tax paid if applicable.
---- if it's a fixed value net $0.01 after bonus rewards offer, then using a coupon will reduce the rewards payout. Dollar off coupons are still useful in reducing the initial outlay, the eventual rewards payout, and the amount of sales tax paid if applicable.
---- if it's a fixed value (buy X get $Y in rewards) bonus rewards offer, then using a coupon has not impacted the rewards payout to date although the recent offer terms change suggests using a coupon may reduce the rewards payout.

06. Any other payment concerns?

Cash, credit cards, gift cards and merchandise : Earn both bonus rewards (100% back offers, $0.01 after rewards, buy X get $Y in rewards offers) and standard rewards (business: $25 for every $500, teacher: $10 for every $75)

Rewards cards: Earn bonus rewards (100% back offers, $0.01 after rewards, buy X get $Y in rewards offers) but NOT standard rewards (business: $25 for every $500, teacher: $10 for every $75)

07. How many rewards card can be used on a single purchase?

In-store and phone: According to the program's terms, up to three Rewards Cards can be used on a single transaction for in-store and phone purchases. The last time I tried using more than three Rewards cards on a single transaction in-store -- admittedly this past June -- the cash register did not prevent using more than three.

Online: The limit is one Rewards Card (or gift card) per transaction.

08. What "date" does the MaxPerks Rewards site use as the date of record for online transactions?

The MaxPerks Rewards site generally uses the date the item ships as the date of record (the "Transaction Date") for an online order. If this date falls outside the offer period it is possible that the system will not automatically credit the reward. If the reward is not automatically credited, contact MaxPerks Rewards customer service to have the reward credited.

09. The offer is not advertised in my region. Is the offer valid in my region?

This appears to be YMMV. Some have reported that non-advertised bonus rewards offers worked for them while others have reported that they have not. My experience is that bonus rewards offers are not valid out of the targeted region(s).

10. The item's online price does not match the item's price in the advertisement. Will the rewards payout be the advertised price or the purchase price?

Some offers have a "maximum reward amount" attached but to date it does not appear that the maximum award amount is being enforced.

Otherwise, for 100% back in rewards offers the rewards payout has been the purchase price regardless of whether the purchase price is less than or greater than the advertised price.

11. When will the rewards be noted on the rewards account?

Please note that the transaction might update in stages.

For an in-store purchase, the transaction information for the purchase should update within several days of purchase. The rewards for the transaction might not update for several days after that.

For an online purchase, the transaction information for the purchase should update within several days of the order's shipment. The rewards for the transaction might not update for several days after that. If the purchase is shipped in several shipments, the transaction and rewards will be updated individually for each shipment.

12. How and when will the rewards / bonus rewards be paid out?

Rewards are paid out via a rewards card (unlimited use until funds exhausted) that can be printed from the MaxPerk's rewards site.

For Business program members, rewards are paid out monthly and are generally paid out in the middle to latter half of the month in the month after the transaction. So, the bonus rewards for the purchase of a bonus rewards item in January will generally be paid out in February.

For Teacher program members, rewards are paid out quarterly and are generally paid out in the middle to latter half of the month in the month following the end of the quarter. So, the bonus rewards for the purchase of a bonus rewards items in January thru March will be paid out in April.

If the rewards will be paid out at a different time it will be noted in the offer's terms.

13. Do rewards expire?

Yes. Rewards expire the last day of the month 3 months following the month in which they are made available on the MaxPerks rewards website. The expiration date is not determined by accessing the online rewards account or printing the rewards certificates.

14. Can rewards be used to purchase gift cards?

No. Effective July 28, 2011, MaxPerks rewards certificates can no longer be used to purchase third party gift and third pary prepaid cards. It has been reported that the cash registers are no longer allowing such a sale.

"Reward Cards are not redeemable for gift cards, general use pre-paid cards, phone cards and are not redeemable for cash unless otherwise required by law."**

"Effective July 28, 2011, Reward Cards are no longer redeemable for purchases of any gift cards OfficeMax sells, including third party gift cards (i.e. restaurant, music, travel, or entertainment gift cards, other merchants’ gift cards, etc.), general use pre-paid cards (i.e. Visa® gift cards, MasterCard® gift cards, and American Express® gift cards), phone cards, or for OfficeMax brand gift cards."**

15. What is the best way to cash out the Rewards?

Unlike Office Depot and Staples, OfficeMax does not offer free after rebate items which leaves purchasing items that are needed or that can be flipped.

16. Does the purchase of a bonus rewards item count toward the purchase requirement for the ink/toner recycling program?

Yes, as long as the purchase is otherwise a qualifying purchase, the purchase of a bonus rewards item does count toward the purchase requirement for the ink/toner recycling program at the item's purchase price net of coupons, rewards (paid on the purchase not received because of the purchase), sales tax and shipping.

Qualifying Purchase

Qualifying purchases are any products or services in our stores, catalogs or web site except for computers, tablets, eReaders, gift cards, general use pre-paid cards, phone cards, Sprint® service plans, sales tax, purchases with a Retail ConnectSM card, purchases made prior to the date of enrollment, and purchases made with your MaxPerks rewards. You will start earning credit for purchases made with your MaxPerks member ID the day you sign up.**

Example:

100% back in bonus rewards on a widget priced at $60.00. Purchase paid for with a $10 off coupon, $20 in rewards and the remainder ($30 net of sales tax) on a credit card.

This purchase will earn $50 in bonus rewards ($60 - $10 coupon) and will count as $30 ($60 - $10 coupon - $20 rewards) toward the recycling program's purchase requirement.

17. The terms and conditions of the MaxPerks Rewards for Business program appear to have a $500 purchase requirement before rewards payout? Do I have to purchase $500 worth of items at OfficeMax before MaxPerks pays out the bonus rewards?

No, the $500 purchase requirement does not apply to bonus rewards.

The OfficeMax MaxPerks rewards programs have two types of rewards: standard and bonus.

The standard reward for the business program members is $25 for every $500 in qualified purchases. The standard reward for the teacher program members is $10 for every $75 in qualified purchases).

Bonus rewards are special deals offered throughout the year. The bonus reward payouts are not linked in any way to standard rewards payouts. See the following from the program's https://www.officemaxperks.com/TermsAndConditionsBusiness.aspx

How To Earn Rewards

From time to time, OfficeMax may also offer its members MaxPerks Bonus Reward opportunities in which members can earn extra rewards (which may vary in amount) for purchasing specified products or completing a required action. To take advantage of the MaxPerks Bonus Rewards special purchase offers, you must have your MaxPerks member ID number at the time of purchase and it must be applied to that purchase. From time to time, these types of offers will also require a coupon code, in addition to your member ID to qualify for the Bonus Reward. No MaxPerks Bonus Reward adjustments will be made after purchase. MaxPerks Bonus Rewards will be issued in the next statement cycle regardless of your qualified purchase balance, unless another timeframe is noted for that specific offer.[/b]**

This. Same goes for when someone says an item costs $30 dollars.

Decimal placement and extraneous symbols bug me, but less so than incorrect or inconsistent apostrophe usage. I see that happen in advertisements and want to get out a red pen, make corrections, and mail a copy of the ad back to the offending company. There's a haircut place for kids around here that has this in their print ad: Toys and Movie's. It's just ignorant and/or lazy.

Whenever I see misplaced apostrophes, I just pretend Shakespeare's ghost was up to shenanigans and "mark'd" them all by hand. It's too amusing of a mental picture for me to actually be dumbfounded by whoever actually put it there. Shakespeare was a genius, if think about it. It's like the guy knew Twitter was coming about in the next 4 or 5 centuries, and decided to drunkenly throw apostrophes into his works (and some debatably not his) to truncate them, so people could share passages in 140 characters or less.

If/when OfficeMax files for bankruptcy, will the MaxPerks rewards be worth anything at the stores that are still open for business? Will the rewards still be granted that are due but haven't posted to your account yet?

I dunno if they are obligated to, but at least Borders honored their rewards points. It's almost like cash.

.01 cents=$.0001 or 1/100th of a cent. Repped you for the info regardless. I just have a pet peeve regarding decimal placement for money.
omg, .01 cent? I can't even fathom how small that is, so, that'll be like I hand out a whole penny (1.00 cent), and then get a change of .99 cent, woot, what a deal!
lol you need rep points for this
Haha, reminds me of the Verizon mistake:

Two questions from OM newbie:

1. I currently have $380 in sales. I know I need $500 to get the $25 rewards cert. If I buy the items here for the $0.01 after rewards, do those sales count towards the $500 in full? So if I spend $20 out of pocket, am I now at $400 in sales towards the $500 or $380.01 towards the $500?

2. If the rewards from last month post, and I print out the rewards and use them towards this new batch of $0.01 items, does that mean I will still get the full rewards back? I think Staples says NO here.

Thank you

by no means I'm an OM expert but i think i can answer these questions for u

1) if u pay $20 OOP u will see $400 @ that tracking bar (it resets every year so i hope u spent that $380 in Jan otherwise it would show 0 or whatever u spent in jan 2012 so far and all the 1 cent items do count in full. not just 1 cent

2) this is still in debate in 2012. To be honest my rewards DID NOT ROLL. I bought $66 worth of FARewards items jan15th and used $4 rewards (rewards left over from nov month) + tax ($62 OOP)
i just checked my maxperk acct. and it shows qualifying amount as $62 and reward earned amount as $62 too but it should show rewards earned amount as $66 but i'll give it one more week to settle ok.

I hope other people will post more about your #2 question cuz everybody wants to roll their dec rewards with these 1 cent items ;);)

UPDATE : Om updated the rewards site and rewards Rolled just fine :)

Different.

You will receive a reduced reward in the amount of the discount. For example, if you have a $30 coupon and the total is $150 you will pay $120 + tax and you will receive the $120 in rewards minus the penny per item.

In other words, there is no substantial benefit to using the coupon except it reduces the sales tax.

It's something new. OfficeMax changed its offer terms last week. Coupons now definitely reduce the payouts on both percentage rewards deals and $0.01 after rewards deals although I believe there is still an open question on other non-$0.01 after rewards fixed value bonus rewards offers.

Are we sure there is a change in the ToS regarding how coupons effect rewards earned? If an item was $100 and I used a $15 coupon (OOP is $85) and it was a '100% back in rewards' deal I always would receive $85 back. However, if the deal was a specific dollar value back - ie: $99.99, I would still get $99.99 back, even though I only paid $85. This has always been how it worked for me online, even through last week.

Just checked and the rewards back on the two cases of paper purchased in store on Sunday are showing the full $$ value back in rewards ($41.98 x 2), even though I used a $10 off $50 coupon.

It seems like the $25 per $500 spent is still based on the amount you pay after coupons, but as far as I can tell I'm still earning the full dollar value back in rewards on the 'pay $99, get $98.99 back' deals, even when using coupons.

There was at least one report from last week's thread about coupon use reducing the rewards payout on a case paper purchase. i'm re-reading unofficial FAQ again and if i'm correct in order to get a recycling counted you need to spend $60 a month (or $180 per quarter) not by rolling. Could be done if purchase done by a gift card too, not just a credit card? also i think you can only use one GC online, just like with max rewards

Yes, GC purchase is the same as cash or credit as far as recycling spending requirements are concerned (paying with maxperks rewards won't count toward spending requirements). You are also right about only 1 GC or maxperks reward per online purchase.

Just to claify. You do not need to spend $60. every month or even $180. every quarter. You could drop off 20 ink Jan-Dec. (for max a total of 20 * $3. * 12= $720.). And then spend a min of $720. And you would still earn the max reward limit of $720. in OM rewards.

Yup, recycle 20 a month and dont buy anything, then in Dec spend $720 on junk and get $720 in rewards the following month. Plus if the junk u bought was FAR, then you would get back $1440 in rewards.

It was better a couple years ago tho, Recycle 10 a week and there was no buying needed. 40 sometimes 50 a month recycled for $120 - $150 a month. Ahhh, good times....damn good times.

The X-9 case paper is not in next week's weekly flyer but if the offer is online only it would not be in the weekly flyer.

The online only MaxPerks offers usually only appear on the OfficeMax.com MaxPerks page but that page updates only after the next week has begun.

Let me open your eyes...
Lets say that you live far away from an OM and/or OD and or Staples.
But you are a member of OM or OD or Staples.

Let then say you know someone, who lives close to all 3 of these stores - even in a different state! He had a paper copy of your rewards card. His ONLY job is -Monthly - is to drop off inks to these stores using your rewards card. (He does NOT have any access to your email account - where the OM/OD/Staples rewards are sent to. And he does not get the store coupons that are normally mailed to the rewards cardholder.) And he does NOT make any purchases for you, he only drops off ink for your account.

The net effect is... that you will earn the OM, OD, Staples montly rewards. You make all your purchases via the web site, and have the items sent to your home. You get all the rewards via emails. And store coupons - via the mail.

I think it is a pretty neat trick - SLICK DEAL. Heck the card holder does not EVER have to step into the store, even to become a rewards card holder. Signing up can always be done on the net.

The full amount you paid (with cash/credit card, etc and not with rewards, of course) will be counted towards the required spending for ink recycling.

For example, if you bought 2 cases of paper, you'll have $83.98 posted to your year-to-date spending, and you'll get $83.96 back in rewards.

i guess time to order then and finally utilize my gift card and bring the spending up. i really have to see if it make sense to spend $720 a year in addition to normal rollover as then my next year rollover would be way over 1k unless i buy laptop. but OM doesn't even have decent laptops, all cheap junk.

Also, how long does it take for recycled ink to show up? I turned it in yesterday but it's showing $0.00 for that. I've never turned in ink before there, so not sure if this is common.

Is it common for spent rewards to still be showing in your account? I spent some of my rewards yesterday and it's still showing in my account (along with Dec. rewards now)?

Also, how long does it take for recycled ink to show up? I turned it in yesterday but it's showing $0.00 for that. I've never turned in ink before there, so not sure if this is common.
The MaxPerks site is not updated in real time.

The amount remaining on rewards certificates is updated every so often. To check the remaining balance, goto officemax.com >> View Cart >> Check Gift Card Balance.

In-store transactions usually update within a day or three.

I ordered two cases of paper and it was showing reward for 2 cases for 10 days including this morning. I check tonight and the reward was reduced to 1 case. Anyone else notice this?

wait a day or two and contact rewards support. might be just a glitch.
i ordered one on 27th and 2nd case on 28th as i was hoping for rewards to show up. 1st one shows up correctly. still waiting for 2nd case (with unhappy delivery guy :) ) and then will see if it shows up in rewards.
order from a prior week shows up fine.
