The link still shows up as 96.93 for me....but it looks like they have the same bag for the 59.93 price, but as a separate item.

weird.

Great deal on a quality bag! I was just looking for a good cold weather bag yesterday. Even on clearance- the decent 20-30 degree bags are all over $60.

At almost 6 pounds it's heavy for long hikes but for back yard and overnight camping it's great. And the price is right. Good for the kids sleepovers as well.

here's a decent bag that's a lot lighter http://www.rei.com/product/835879/the-north-face-aleutian-20-sleeping-bag-2011-closeout

That's a 25 degree bag that $30 more expensive. Of course it's lighter.

Why not suggest this:

Only 1 lb 5 ozs! You'll be much happier with this on your next winter camping trip!

I also have one in the jeepl, just in case, but I have been looking for another one.
One light enough for backpacking would be nice. I don't know much at all about spces or prices of sleeping bags.

What would be a really slick price on say a -20 bag that was around 3-3.5lb ? (If they even make -20 bags that light :D)

There are other good deals on REI but for a 0 degree bag that is supposed to be pretty accurate temp rating, this is hot. There are an awful lot of light bags that are very optimistically rated at 20 or 30 degrees that you will freeze your butt off in.

If you really want to shave weight, a pricey down bag is your future. ;)

From people who seem to live outside and pack really light Western Mountaineering is one of the best brands. Here is a 3lb 10oz -25 degree bag for $700+ (http://www.backcountry.com/western-mountaineering-puma-gore-ws-sleeping-bag-25-degree-down.html) So a really slick deal would be $500 or so, IMO.

Of course you can always find someone selling a 3lb bag that they rate to -20 for much less but check reviews or try it yourself before you hike a couple miles into the woods

Thx OP. I ordered 2 to replace my 15 year old REI hollofill bags which have lost their warmth over the years. Our internet is on the fritz so I just ordered over te phone. Yes 5.5lb is not an ultralite bag but if you want to same warmth at 3-4 lbs you ar going to spend 3-4 times as much.

Oh and don't forget about REI's rediculously good return policy. If you are EVER disatisfied you can return it. I have even returned things 2 years after I bought them (soles were coming off of a pair of hiking boots). And if you are a member you get 10% back in your dividend check every year.

Very nice. Not all "temperature" ratings are the same I have learned.

My brother has both a Cabelas 0 and a Northface +30 (or 40) and he claims the northface to be much warmer.

Grabbed one to replace my Coleman +10 as my winter/fall bag.

On a side note- i have a very similar sleeping bag to the one below - Alpine Designs 20 deg.
http://www.sportsauthority.com/product/index.jsp?productId=11028493&cp=&kw=alpine+designs&searchSort=TRUE&fbc=1&f=Taxonomy%2FTSA%2F3077577&f=Taxonomy%2FTSA%2F3085044&f=Taxonomy%2FTSA%2F2280720&fbx=1&lmdn=Category&s=A-StorePrice-TSA&fbn=Taxonomy|Sleeping+Bags&pg=3&parentPage=search

Its great for backpacking and i have used it at glaciers at 10k feet. It has served me well. I know this says women but honestly i dont know what the difference is. It comes with a very well designed compression sack. Add the 25% off coupon to this and this is a golden deal.
2lbs and can be compressed into approx the size of a gallon milk jar.

Dividend is only on non clearance and non closeout items. So you may not qualify for a dividend on this.
Dont get me wrong, I love REI- spent $400 on skiing supplies there just yday. You have got to love the return policy- that one reason alone -why i dont bother shopping elsewhere even if i have to pay a premium.

The different is usually that the hip box is a little wider to accommodate women.

LOVE REI to no end! And it isn't a premium, because it is the same prices that you will find in other stores as well...I always hate how people say REI marks up prices. Go to Mountain Hardware, Arc'Teryx, North face, Thule, etc and their MSRP are the prices that REI puts.

Their Customer Service, returns, and knowledge are what put them over the top. Also...they have been in the Forbes top 100 places to work (in the top ten) for like 18 years in a row!

This is a great car camping bag for the price...yes it is not light, because guess what...IT WASN'T DESIGNED to be for ultra lighters. Come on people...stop bitching. It fits a nitch.

Tangential, but hopefully helpful... I would stay away from any bag that hasn't been tested (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/EN_13537) unless you have personal experience or a reliable account of the warmth of the bag. As a previous post said, a "30 degree" back was warmer than a "0 degree" bag he tried. In general, I would add 20 to 30 degrees to the comfort rating of any non-tested bag.

For example, when we got in to camping and backpacking, we upgraded from the $20 crap bag you can find anywhere to a pair of highly recommended NF Cat's Meows rated at 20F. We both had freezing feet sleeping in the low-mid 30s at Joshua Tree (with more than sufficient sleeping pads with R-value of 4.1).

I ended up getting more serious about backpacking and bought a (not slickdeal-worthy) Marmot Helium, which is straight up amazing. My wife sleeps very cold but doesn't backpack very much so we got her a Kelty Cosmic Down 0F for a little over $100, which I highly recommend if you're at all interested in cold-weather camping.

Bottom-line: with sleeping bags, don't trust the marketing and buy right or you'll be buying again

I agree with the temperature rating comments. I bought an expensive, lightweight bag that was rated at 40 degrees. The first time I used it it was 40 degrees. I wore socks, long underwear and a hat and froze. I have a -20 EMS bag that I've used at 0 and wouldn't take any lower. I'm a cold sleeper, so I always add 20-30 to a bag rating to be safe.
