No USB 3.0. Integrated graphics. Bummer.

I agree that no USB 3.0 is a bummer, but integrated graphics at this price is a given. You won't find a core i7 laptop anywhere close to this price with (or without) a discreet graphics card.

Not bad for the average user looking for a regular laptop. The processor is the only thing that's good on this laptop.

I'm wondering what use the power of an i7 is with integrated graphics? I can't see a use for that much power. I'm also wondering if it's possible to put a upgrade graphics card in.

I guess just as a multi-tasking beast...not a gaming beast, which is why 4GB of RAM just won't do.

With a memory upgrade this laptop would be perfect as a work laptop for advanced users. IT teams and software/database development teams.
For home use I don't see much use beyond "average user" uses and for $200 less those users would be fully satisfied.
This looks like a great business deal and a flop for a home deal.

I'm pretty sure Lenovos can not have their graphics card upgraded.

Lowest price I can find AT and FS is Amazon at $699 (http://www.amazon.com/Lenovo-IdeaPad-15-6-500GB-Notebook/dp/B006IITEUK)
Did anyone notice that Costco adds a free Kapersky Internet Security 1 User? If you don't want it, probably can resell on eBay for a few bucks. They value it in the cart at $20, but we SDers know better.
However, this does not make up the ~$50 in taxes and $30 shipping (assuming not available at local B&M - seems only available online though). Net net is a $20 discount from Amazon.

Yes, but do not forget the 90 days return and 2 years warranty with Costco.

The onboard graphics for this processor are honestly very good. They perform on par with a desktop 4650. For a laptop, really not that bad. I don't know about price, but if you're looking for a discrete graphics card at this price point, you probably wont get a 2nd gen i7. This will do for most games. You'd have to play them on low and medium, but it would work

This is definitely NOT the lowest price for a 2nd gen core i7 laptop. It's a decent price, but a quick search of this site will show a lot of prices at or better than this in the last couple months for an i7. Basically, each deal is for a different configuration so sometimes it's hard to compare directly. But for $30 less ($600) before Christmas there were definitely configurations that would've given an i7 processor, 17" screen (compared to this 15"), blu-ray player (rather than the DVD here), USB 3.0, larger hard drive, and longer battery life. All of these are features that generally cost a decent amount to upgrade to.
If you wanted to pay more than $600, you could've also gotten things such as an even bigger hard drive, more RAM, and dedicated graphics card.
Again, this is not a bad price and perhaps this is right if you have your heart set on a Lenovo IdeaPad. But certainly this is nowhere near the best price recently advertised for an i7 with this configuration.

Define "good." Yes, the Intel HD3000 graphics does scale; an i7 is faster than an i3 graphically. However, that is not saying much as the i3-HD3000 is barely acceptable. Games that make use of the GPU will still choke on this.
IMHO, save half and buy an AMD A6 or just a regular i3 if you don't game.

If this laptops keyboard is what I think it is, I would NOT recommend this laptop. Look closely at the laptop image, and you'll see all the keys mashed together, it even has the 3*3 numeric keypad on the right side.
At first though it seems nice to have all those keys, but everything is smaller and bunched together so you'll find yourself hitting a lot of different keys than the one you intended, and impossible to find the arrow keys unless you're looking at the keyboard.

There was an HP dv6 at Costco a few months back for $699 - same i7 processor and has ATI Radeon 6770 on board, along with 8GB ram, 1TB hard drive. My fiancee picked one up - it performs pretty well on games. It is possible, but not often, to find i7s with discreet graphics built in.

Off the topic... I am due for buying another laptop and waiting out on the so-called Ultrabooks. But it looks like Ultrabooks will see discrete graphics only in Q3 2012 release (lenovo being the first). So, if i need power over ultra-mobility, should i just go ahead buy the regular laptops now (or) wait? anyone?

The DV6t deal was good, you can still find it directly from HP, but that's $700 plus tax with 14 day return and 1 year warranty.

You have an odd definition of very good. Please take a look at the game benchmarks section:
http://www.notebookcheck.net/Intel-HD-Graphics-3000.37948.0.html
You will notice many games are completely unplayable even on the lowest settings and very few are playable above the lower settings.
If you are going to be gaming and want something cheap, you would be better off getting a AMD A8 (Radeon HD 6750 (http://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-HD-6755G2.57278.0.html).) You get a good deal less CPU performance, but a good deal more graphics performance for about $200 less. Otherwise spend $150 more and get something with a real GPU.
Again, this laptop is good for other uses and the deal isn't bad at all if you are buying for the uses it is suited for.

This is a great budget laptop for people not planning on gaming and need the extra processor cores for software that can use it. Video rendering / code compiling, etc.

Don't forget this deal at TigerDirect from Black Friday: ASUS i7-2670m with a 1GB GeForce 540m for $610 (after shipping + no tax for states). It actually ended up having USB 3.0 even though it was not listed.

Later they had a very similar configuration at Amazon for $670 (free shipping + no tax for most states) which also had USB 3.0.

Why would you want an ultrabook with dedicated graphics lol, that's like pimping out a small car with a V8 engine. You pay the extra money and sacrifice power for mobility and battery life. Getting the dedicated GPU would beat the purpose of the ultrabook. The integrated graphics should be more than enough for videos, apps and light gaming. Not to mention the heat issues that might occur with running a dedicated GPU. But if you have the money to spare and that's what you want, go for it.
If I were you, I would wait. Ivy Bridge as well as the new line of Radeon and GeForce videocards are just around the corner (hopefully). The die shrinks and maybe some new cooling technologies might make the ultrabook with dedicated graphics that you want possible. Even if you don't buy them, laptops with Sandy Bridge and the current generation of video cards will likely to become cheaper.

What about AMD Trinity?
17W Trinity = Current A-series CPU/GPU power just at lower TDP
35W/45W Trinity = Current A-series + 15-25% improvement in CPU/GPU
17W A6/A8 will be amazing.

You WILL find a core I7 laptop not only close to but BETTER than this price without a discreet graphics card. It will, however, require you to spend 2 minutes looking through the SD threads... To get a discreet graphics card on board will require maybe another $100...

You forgot to mention it was a big bitch. (17") I'm typing this on a big bitch of my own, a Dell Inspiron 1710, that I want to replace with a smaller more portable laptop.
Your looking at desktop replacement sized laptops, 15.6" is a different animal, and much more portable.
